Department Custom Scope
The Campus Fire Inspector provides and supports professional level fire protection inspection services to the campus and construction of new and/or modified facilities. Provides and supports a comprehensive Fire Prevention Program and incorporates campus compliance of fire protection codes and related regulations; the Fire Prevention Program has campus-wide impact and extends to all UCR owned or occupied off-site locations. Under general direction of the Campus Fire Marshal and Assistant Campus Fire Marshal, the Fire Inspector works with external regulatory agencies to approve/deny activities that may impact the campus core mission. The Campus Fire Marshal (DCFM) administrates and implements the University of California Office of the President, State Fire Marshal (SFM) Memorandum of Agreement (MOU), and acts on behalf of the Campus Fire Marshal as needed.

Develops, implements, and monitors environmental and safety programs, systems, procedures, and training in one or more of the following fields: industrial hygiene, environmental health, pest control, occupational safety, ergonomics, laboratory safety, biosafety, controlled substances, environmental protection, fire safety, radiation safety, hazardous materials control and hazardous waste management (may include shipping).
  • Performs review of construction documents and plans in regards to fire alarm, fire suppression and fire safety details. Implements fire prevention requirements per California Building (CBC), California Fire Code (CFC), and California code of regulations Title 24 & 19 requirements and adopted NFPA Standards.

Performs technical work related to field(s) of expertise.
  • Conducts inspections and testing processes in accordance with CCR Titles 24 & 19. Writes inspection reports and maintains records per the requirements and policies for UC Riverside.

Designs new and/or recommends improvements to existing processes and procedures.
  • Develops procedures using a combination of original and standard professional approaches to solve substantive, complex problems with multiple variables. Creates and adjusts methodologies to meet changing regulatory and scientific environment.
