Writes or edits a variety of comprehensive and difficult material for stylistic consistency, logic, organization, rational development of content, and emphasis. Researches, selects sources for and conducts interviews, and ensures accuracy of written pieces. Recommends content and layout, edits, and coordinates production of a variety of printed and online material, or conversion of printed pieces to online formats and archives.

Department Custom Scope
Provides news, branded messaging and information to key audiences as part of a strategic communication plan that elevates the mission and message of the UCR School of Medicine. Increases production of stories, press releases, articles, op-ed, social media, etc. Assists in implementing programs and activities and gathering information designed to enhance the public's understanding and appreciation of the UCR School of Medicine. Assists in gathering and preparing news and information.

Key Responsibilities

Description % Time
Under limited supervision, researches, writes and/or edits material for a variety of publications for internal and external audiences, consulting with clients as necessary.
  • Supports the Digital Communications Manager and University Communications Public Information Officer to distribute information as needed or requested. Collaborates with SOM leadership, Strategic Initiatives, faculty, staff and partners with University Communications, Development, Government & Community Relations to solicit concepts for stories of potential interest. Conducts interviews with faculty and staff to gather information and writes materials such as news releases, statements and articles for internal and external audiences.

Produces articles, press releases, profiles, briefings, blogs, collateral, and/or other written material using subject matter expertise.
  • Drafts complex news stories, feature stories, profiles and other content for electronic and print publication. Assists in gathering and preparing news/information about UCR SOM and its programs for dissemination through the media, internet and relevant institutional components. Suggests stories of potential interest to UCR SOM leadership and to news media.
