Department Custom Scope
Under the general supervision of the Communications Supervisor, the Dispatcher will dispatch routine and emergency communications in support of a 24 hour 7 day per week operation at the UC Riverside Police Department. The Dispatcher is responsible for entering calls into the Computer Aided Dispatch System (CAD); managing and routing 9-1-1 and Police telephone calls, and prioritizing dispatched calls for service to ensure the safety of all field personnel. The Dispatcher is also responsible for operating and monitoring numerous radios on various frequencies; monitoring fire, robbery and intrusion alarm systems; making inquiries and entries into computer systems; disseminating information to the proper authority; and operating numerous computer systems with connections to local, State and Federal Law enforcement systems. |

EMERGENCY SERVICES Coordinate on campus emergency and non-threatening service calls by routing information and assistance requests to primary and secondary campus response units. Provide public information relating to law enforcement activities as permitted. COMPUTERS SYSTEM OPERATIONS Process and monitor calls quickly and efficiently by using the CAD system to enter verified data, disseminate information to various bulletins, update indexes, revise pertinent information and close incidents. Operate CLETS terminal by conducting inquiries, entries, and updates to automated databases. Send, receive and decode teletype information. | 30 |
RADIO CONSOLE OPERATIONS AND MONITORING Communicate by two-way radio with University Police, County Fire, Medical Services, and other campus units by obtaining and transmitting informational requests and notifications needing prompt attention. Monitor radio systems by determining intrusions, robberies, panic alarms, fire alarms, and closed circuit television screens. | 25 |
RECORD ADMINISTRATION Regulate and maintain forms, files and information sources by ensuring the completion of communication service center books and logs. Verify that updates are being made to all manuals relating to the operation, upkeep, and laws governing the use of computers and computerized information.
