Department Custom Scope
Under medical supervision, hospitalists supervise and/or perform professional work in primary care medicine involving the examination, diagnosis, and treatment of adult or pediatric patients at UCR Health and affiliate sites. Works collaboratively with other physician groups for patient care. Employee will float to both UCR Health and affiliate sites located in Riverside, San Bernardino and/or in the Palm Desert. Currently, a part time staff appointment will be scheduled to work 12 hour shifts ? 1 week (7 days) every 4 weeks.

Experience in inpatient and outpatient settings. Preferred

Must meet UC credentialing requirements. Required

Maintenance of California Medical License and Drug Enforcement Agency (DEA) prescribing number. Required

Basic Life Support (BLS) certification. Required

Key Responsibilities

Description % Time
Hospitalists will engage in direct patient care activities and medical/clinical practice as the principal component of his/her overall professional responsibility within the Hospitalist Program. Patient care activities will include, but are not be limited to: 1. Assessment, evaluation, diagnostic determination, on-going treatment and clinical management, necessary referral for consultation, care planning and modification, medications/therapeutic orders, transfer authorization, risk assessment, and, when appropriate, determination of readiness and planning for discharge. 2. Extensive and on-going communications with community primary care physicians who routinely manage the care of patients currently in the hospital. 3. Day-to-day patient contact/rounding/care management that actively encourages and includes professional input from all members of the patient care team. 4. Accurate and timely completion of all clinical and professional records and documentation to assure compliance with local, state and federal regulatory, licensure and accreditation requirements. 5. Instruct residents, interns, and students in a designated specialized medical service.

Communication: Direct contact and consultation with patient family members, advocates, and others to ensure effective communication of patient status and care plans, and to encourage/support an open visitor-friendly environment within the medical/hospital environment.

Billing for Services: Accurately documents needed information to bill for services by recording diagnosis codes and completing corresponding documentation. Works with UCR billing services department, both clinical and nonclinical people, to explain, confirm, and review charges. Provides supporting documentation as needed.
