Exercises judgment in selecting methods, techniques and evaluation criteria for obtaining results.

Department Custom Scope
UCR ARTS opened to the public in 2010, bringing together the California Museum of Photography and the Barbara and Art Culver Center of the Arts. UCR ARTS is a museum and art center with national and international visibility and engagement through its acclaimed exhibitions, performances, collections, programs, and research center. We are in downtown Riverside, California, 3 miles from the main campus. The UCR ARTS Director of External Relations (DER) is a senior professional who is focused on increasing philanthropic giving and public understanding for UCR ARTS and communicating UCR ARTS' value and impact on the Inland Empire, California, and the nation. This position is critical for the success of the museum and arts center programming and operations. The successful candidate will broaden our network of funders and supporters, and strengthen relationships with outside constituencies including philanthropists, businesses, granting agencies, and state and national Foundations. The primary activity of the DER will be evaluated on the ability to achieve financial metrics and attendance goals. The DER reports to the UCR ARTS Executive Director. This will be a 1-year contract position with the opportunity for annual renewal based on achieving established performance goals.

Key Responsibilities

Description % Time
Researches and recommends new and innovative methods for generating revenue.
  • Focuses on securing philanthropic giving through private and government sources, including individuals, corporate entities, private foundations, and government agencies that fund the arts and museums, including NEA and IMLS, with the collaborative direction of the Executive Director of UCR ARTS. This person is responsible for major gift prospecting and donor cultivation, solicitation, and stewardship, of individual donors. Manages designated individual prospects and corporate sponsorship portfolios. Executes grant reporting as required by government agencies and understands the function and protocol of UCR's Office of Research and Economic Development (RED).

Creates, develops, implements and evaluates strategic marketing programs, projects, and campaigns.
  • Promotes and assists UCR ARTS in increasing awareness of the arts programming and needs of the organization. Administers annual giving, assuming oversight for the membership outreach program as designated by the Executive Director of UCR ARTS. Responsibilities include the development of marketing and communications materials both printed and web based to increase museum awareness, contributed and earned revenue, and attendance.
