Utilizing advanced, specialized expertise provides direction and guidance to lower level Student Services professionals in specialized student life and development programs, and resolves the most complex cases/situations; and/or has programmatic responsibility for a discreet complex Student Life & Development function or content area.

Department Custom Scope
Under the general supervision of the Director, the Assistant Director of the Highlander Union Building (HUB) is responsible for direct oversight, vision and direction over HUB Programming and the Highlander Union Manager program, including recognition, recruitment and training. The Assistant Director is also responsible for providing comprehensive support to the department in the areas of Audio/Visual management and scheduling, student employment, event approval, recognition programs and the Cultural Funds program. The incumbent will also support general Student Life functions and events as needed.

Key Responsibilities

Description % Time
Manages a program of providing counseling, guidance and development to student leaders or student government. Oversee(s) a program(s) and service(s) of diverse complexity and scope.
  • Directly supervises Highlander Union Managers. Holds weekly status update meetings, responsible for scheduling, training, advisement and program improvements. Provides support to the HUB Programs team. Co-Advises Programming Board with Programming and Operations Officer. Provides oversight of HUB Programs budget. Manages Multimedia needs of the building including scheduling, training of HUB student employees and serves as liaison to Multimedia Services.

May provide strategic vision and oversight on development of program design and applicability. Measures, assesses, and evaluates programs and staff.
  • Evaluates services of the Highlander Union and recommends new opportunities for programs. Stays current with student union trends and the needs of UCR students. Leads assessment of HUB Programming and Scheduling services and participates in long range planning of the HUB complex.

Oversees multiple business services and may supervise business coordinators. Defines criteria for service and assesses risk/benefit, balances financial and cost considerations against the degree of students served. Provides guidance for new services and advises students on development of business plans. Responsible for long range planning and development and new initiatives.
  • Under the supervision of the Director, researches and recommends new business opportunities for the Highlander Union. Develops and maintains in house multimedia service for the Highlander Union including funding, staffing, training and implementation.

  • Supervises HUB Front Desk Administrative Staff with responsibility for minor audio/visual support and general office operations
