Generic Scope
Oversees through subordinate managers a large department or multiple smaller units, OR manages a highly specialized technical function/team. Has significant responsibility to achieve broadly stated goals through subordinate managers. Determines objectives, directs programs, develops strategies and policies, manages human, financial, and physical resources, and functions with a high degree of autonomy. Proactively assesses risk to establish systems and procedures to protect organizational assets. Determines strategies for a program with organization-wide impact.

Custom Scope
Establishes objectives and work plans, and delegates assignments to subordinate managers. Responsible for managing, preparing, administering, and directing resources. Reviews and approves recommendations for functional programs. Involved in developing, modifying and executing policies that affect immediate operation(s) and may also have campus-wide, medical center or Office of the President effect. Erroneous decisions or failure to achieve goals results in additional costs and personnel, and serious delays in overall schedules.

Department Custom Scope
The Director of Infrastructure Operations reports directly to the Chief Technology Officer and is responsible for the effective and efficient delivery of both on-premise and cloud IT (systems and network) infrastructure that supports business processes, services and end users across campus. The Director of Infrastructure Operations is also responsible for understanding the current needs of faculty, staff, and students in order to make recommendations on the strategic direction of infrastructure services to the CIO and CTO.

Provides direction and guidance to staff members, within the latitude of established HR and campus policies.
  • Provides leadership in the day-to-day maintenance and operation for compute, storage, voice, video, and data networks, and leads the planning and implementation of enhancements to both on-premise and cloud infrastructure.

In conjunction with subordinate managers, manages the analysis of the needs of functional departments and helps to establish priorities for feasibility studies and systems design and implementation to develop new and/or modify information processing systems.
  • Works with the team to ensure that ITS systems are designed for fault tolerance, business continuity and disaster recovery.

Recommends changes to department/section policies and establishes procedures that affect immediate organization.
  • Works with the Chief Technology Officer to develop operational policies and procedures for the Enterprise Infrastructure operations division of ITS.

Coordinates with functional departments involved in system requirements, techniques, and controls.
