Department Custom Scope
The Support & Wellness Specialist will promote personal wellness planning using 8 dimensions of wellness for School of Medicine residents and students. Responsible for development and implementation of education, teambuilding, social events, promotional materials, and other projects that support the overall wellbeing of students, residents, fellows, and faculty. Provides group and individual support to UME & GME learners in wellness planning and mental health needs. Works with class elected wellness representatives in evaluating and addressing cohort needs and is responsible for outreach and promotion of mental health programs and resources. Develops wellness related programming and researches, compiles, and analyzes wellness services data. Will ensure regulatory and accreditation standards are met and that initiatives are implemented in support of the continued growth and success of UME & GME programs.

Education & Experience Requirements

Degree Requirement
Bachelor's degree in related area and/or equivalent experience/training. Required
Master's Degree in; Health Promotion, Counseling, Social Work, Psychology or equivalent. Preferred

Experience Requirements

Experience in researching in compiling and analyzing data. Preferred
Experience working with healthcare professionals. Preferred
Clinical experience providing mental health support/consultation. Required
Experience in providing supportive counseling and crisis intervention services, wellness education, prevention, health promotion, mental health, or a related field (preferably in higher education). Required
4 - 7 years of related experience. Required
Experience in program assessment and evaluation. Required
Experience working with diverse populations and underrepresented communities and 1st generation students. Required
Experience in wellness programming from a multi-dimensional perspective of wellness. Preferred

License Requirements

Key Responsibilities

Description % Time
Presents group classes on a variety of subject areas of need, including but not limited to: nutrition, weight management, smoking cessation, stress management, diabetes management, prenatal care, cardiovascular health issues, etc.
  • Provides group and individual support to UME & GME learners in wellness planning and mental health needs. Provides individual supportive sessions with students in developing and maintaining personal wellness planning. Promotes personal wellness planning using 8 dimensions of wellness. Provides supportive interventions and triaging to campus and community counseling services as needed.

Assesses effectiveness of class/counseling content, and revises as needed.
  • Plans and implements innovative and comprehensive, holistic wellness education, prevention programs, and services for UME & GME learners. Creates and implements wellness programming with support of Director of Support & Wellness and Director of Graduate Medical Education. Work collaboratively in the development of curriculum.

  • Expands scope of wellness event offerings delivered to learners from a multidimensional wellness perspective.

Develops, implements and evaluates effectiveness of health promotion/education programs.
  • Responsible for development and implementation of education, teambuilding, social events, promotional materials and other projects that support the overall wellbeing of students, residents, fellows and faculty. Provides regular reports to Director of Support & Wellness and Director of Graduate Medical Education on learner use and satisfaction of wellness workshops and events. Works with class elected wellness representatives in evaluating and addressing cohort needs. Develops wellness related programming. Establishes annual wellness goals and events for learners. Researches, compiles and analyzes wellness services data, including trends from the ACGME annual wellbeing survey.

Conducts needs analysis for health promotion and education.
  • Utilizes data to assess the needs of UME & GME programming and assesses programming effectiveness and outcomes. Ensures regulatory and accreditation standards are met and that initiatives are implemented in support of the continued growth and success of UME and GME programs.

Assists in promoting health education components to physicians, staff, and patients through meeting presentations, printed promotional material, etc.
  • Provides promotional messaging and communications surrounding wellness. Conducts outreach and promotion of mental health programs and resources.
