Department Custom Scope
Under general supervision of the Head of Access Services, this position is responsible for training Security Guards and other personnel assigned to protective duties; guard and protect University and library property with a high intrinsic or monetary value. The Security Guard Sr. will respond and follow up on all issues within the library buildings. Act as deterrent to criminal activity by routinely patrolling the library buildings. The incumbent must be able to work Monday through Friday 8 am to 5 pm; must have the flexibility to cover evening shifts, as needed due to scheduling issues; during the last week of instruction and finals, the incumbent will be called upon to work extended hours and consecutive days. The incumbent is responsible for scheduling all security staff and student employees. |

Prevention/Security Responsibilities: Actively patrols both library buildings to provide protection of persons and property. While on foot patrol or assigned to a fixed post, will monitor for compliance to library and campus policies. In cases of non-compliance advises patrons of the relevant policy and request compliance. Request assistance of appropriate authorities for escalated incidents following established guidelines. Immediately responds to active incidents within the library buildings, and submits incident reports. Assist in the implementation of the security and emergency procedures of the library. Prevents unauthorized removal of university and library property from the premises. Responsible for opening, closing, and/or arming the libraries according to established procedures. | 55 |
Individual and Technical Responsibilities: Responsible for hiring, training, and evaluating security staff and student personnel. Produces and distributes the security staff schedule to all the employees. Notifies other departments of adjustments to the schedule, and maintains online calendar of the current work schedule. Processes all timesheets, and approves all time off requests. Routinely monitors security staff by randomly conducting foot patrol checks. Reviews and updates procedures and training documents. Produces step-by-step documentation for best practices to handle typical issues within the library for other staff to follow. Responsible for lost and found items, and maintains the lost and found logs, and the proper disposable of items not claimed. Maintains and reports hourly patron and gate counts. Recommends and participates in the annual student budget funding proposal. | 40 |
