Custom Scope
Administers all finance, human resources and facilities and other operational activities for small to mid-sized academic or research program. Administers major program components, and some or all of the program's operational requirements. Develops and organizes conferences and other public forums. Works under direction of Principal Investigator or more senior Academic Program Officer to establish center agenda, funding, objectives.

Department Custom Scope
The Asian Americans and Pacific Islanders (AAPI) Data project at the University of California, Riverside seeks a Managing Director who works in close coordination with the co-directors, senior researchers, staff of AAPI Data, as well as partners that include community organizations, research centers, government agencies, private philanthropy, and news organizations. The Managing Director is responsible for coordinating operations, designing and implementing strategic plans that include fundraising, budgeting, and personnel allocation, and supervising the work of staff engaged in a variety of projects and initiatives. The Managing Director is expected to have excellent communication skills, including drafting reports, grant proposals, and press releases. The Managing Director is also expected to demonstrate excellent project management skills, possess a track record of overseeing multiple streams of work, and the ability to work in a fast-paced environment. A strong attention to detail, and the ability to multitask, prioritize and meet deadlines are required. This is a two-year position, with renewal based on performance and the availability of additional funding.

Advanced degree in related area and/or equivalent experience/training. Required
Terminal degree in a related field (PhD, JD, MD, etc.). Preferred
Master's degree or other terminal degree, or significant program administration experience, in public policy, the social sciences, or related fields. Preferred

Key Responsibilities

Description % Time
Administers a small to mid-sized program with primary responsibility for administrative and programmatic activities.
  • Coordinates and manages implementation of work that involves AAPI Data staff, researchers in multiple institutions, and partners in various external organizations including nonprofits, philanthropy, government agencies.

Works with program leadership to identify and pursue funding opportunities and revenue streams.
  • Develops proposals and recommendations to guide and support a broader strategic direction for AAPI Data

Produce drafts and copyedit written reports, grant proposals, blog posts, and press releases.

Assesses program's effectiveness, and recommends changes to program's content, policies and procedures accordingly.
  • Researches and analyzes processes and procedures, summarizes findings, policies and organizational structures in order to develop and / or implement changes and to provide consultative services to department administrators, partners and external stakeholders.
