Custom Scope
Independently oversees a comprehensive communications program for a unit or school with moderately complex communications requirements. The communications program usually includes written, visual, digital and electronic communications. Works with management to develop and execute organizational communication and market branding strategy. Designs and implements information campaigns.

Department Custom Scope
Under the general direction of the Associate Director of Operations, the Communications & Events Manager manages all aspects of communications and events sponsored by UCR?s Center for Environmental Research and Technology (CE-CERT). This includes operational support, managing communication channels, serving as the unit's event manager, cultivating key relationships with internal and external partners, and the application of UC and UCR rules and regulations. The Bourns College of Engineering, Center for Environmental Research & Technology (CE-CERT)'s mission is to be a recognized leader in environmental education, a collaborator with industry and government to improve the technical basis for regulations and policy, a creative source of new technology, and a contributor to a better understanding of the environment. Established in 1992 and now operating as the largest research center at the University of California at Riverside, CE-CERT brings together multiple disciplines throughout campus to address society's most pressing environmental challenges in air quality, climate change, energy, and transportation. CE-CERT activities encompass all three aspects of the University of California's overarching mission: research, education, and public service.

Key Responsibilities

Description % Time
Works with management and clients to create, develop, and implement long and short term strategic communications plans and/or projects.
  • Under general supervision, manages the development and publication of CE-CERT?s Annual Report; this includes collecting center information, organizing the report layout, overseeing publication, and assisting with the report dissemination. Under general supervision, handle interactions with major gift prospects, donors, and Board of Advisors through email and/or phone, discuss issues and process requests in a professional and courteous manner, using the utmost tact and diplomacy. Drafts and posts informational and marketing materials for various CE-CERT programs and initiatives. Provides timely service to donor and development officer requests and inquiries.

Manages comprehensive communications programs, including written, visual, digital, and electronic communications.
  • Manages the internal and external communications of CE-CERT. Internal communications include internal memos, emails, and center announcements. External communications include, but is not limited to, managing the CE-CERT website in partnership with the college webmaster, quarterly newsletters, mass emails to CE-CERT contacts, social media channels (Twitter, LinkedIn, Instagram, etc.) and other forms of multi-media outreach.

Events Planning and Coordination: In collaboration with the CE-CERT Directors and Faculty, the incumbent will plan and execute events, including handling the catering, budgeting, booking of venues, registration, designing and sending out sponsorship documents, developing brochures, communicating with speakers, gathering student volunteers for participation, and following up with sponsors. Contributes to and participates in long-range unit event planning. Develops invitations, programs, and collateral materials for events.

Center-wide Initiative Support: Assist in driving CE-CERT's mission by providing strategic support for the center's priority initiatives. This may include coordinating the completion and collection of meeting materials, compiling background materials associated with CE-CERT initiatives, preparing fact-sheets, spreadsheets, reports, and PowerPoint presentations for strategic outreach activities, assisting with public tours, and navigating press and other inquires to the appropriate CE-CERT personnel.

Identifies specific communications needs and develops the content and process for organizational improvements.
  • Creates and maintains a comprehensive filing system for legacy donors and manages document flow and gift agreement process. Tracks and manages CE-CERT's publications, reports, videos, and other CE-CERT products (with student employee assistance).
