Custom Scope
Uses skills as a seasoned, experienced public educational program professional to resolve a wide range of educational program issues and needs assessments. Develops new public educational programs, and works on complex public educational programs of diverse scope. Demonstrates good judgment in selecting methods and techniques for delivering courses, presentations and development programs. Receives general instructions and exercises judgment in selecting methods and techniques for course and instructional improvement. Fully knowledgeable in course subject matter and program.

Department Custom Scope
Reporting to the Executive Director, the Public Education Specialist 3 serves as the Director of the UCR OSHER Lifelong Learning Institute (OLLI) and Community Education programs, managing and overseeing all aspects of the program in all locations. Provides accessible, high quality continuing education through innovative and entrepreneurial approaches for the OLLI Program and other community programs. Directs the UCR OLLI for adults over the age of 50 by providing non-credit, non-academic lectures for adult learners. Develops and nurtures good, long term working relationships with the business and nonprofit community, University faculty and staff, and guest lecturers. This position will oversee performance and support of guest lectures, create curricula/lecture plans, schedule lectures quarterly, establish program budgets and control expenses, develop marketing plans and write promotional marketing press releases, and recruit new guest lecturers and evaluate new programs. Works with the Executive Director to develop, implement and evaluate community engagement programs.

Actively participates in long-range strategic planning for public educational programs.
  • Research funding opportunities, organize grant-writing activity, and manage the OLLI program grants. Research, prepare, and submit proposals for funding in coordination with the UCR Contracts and Grants office. Creating opportunities for community outreach, fundraising, managing publicity and marketing communications, and developing memberships.
