Department Custom Scope
The Bourns College of Engineering Shared Services Center (POSSC) is committed to creating a high standard of service for our college and partner colleges. Our services are performed by a team of highly skilled and engaged service professionals, who participate in change management and continuous improvement strategies in order to move the POSSC operation to the highest level of service and process efficiency and effectiveness. POSSC provides payroll services including recruitment, time reporting, payroll, onboarding, and leave administration for BCOE departments. The POSSC Payroll Analyst 2 coordinates and facilitates with the HR/AP Analysts as well as department personnel to gather information that needs to be processed from each of the respective departments. The Payroll Analyst ensures timely and accurate review, preparation, processing, and auditing of payroll, personnel, and financial transactions. The Payroll Analyst ensures accurate entry and oversight of information related to the requests for services in order to minimize errors in the process.

Reviews and analyzes reports for discrepancies, and works with departments to make corrections.

Provides assistance to payroll processors on moderately complex transactions.

Interprets pay policies (for example, vacation, leave of absence, disability, workers compensation, union contracts, government regulations, withholding exemptions, et cetera), and ensures appropriate amounts/deductions are calculated and applied to the various accounts correctly.

Applies professional concepts in analyzing and reviewing department payroll actions appearing on overpayment/underpayment reports to determine processing errors.

Audits and reconciles payroll benefit deductions.

Coordinates with the Office of the President's UC system-wide administration on clearance of items in financial journals, and distributes expenses to the appropriate departments and accounts.

Identifies and analyzes reconciliation of payroll liability accounts.

Provides background information to higher level Payroll Analysts for resolution.

Provides ad hoc payroll training to departmental payroll processors.
  • Create and present payroll related presentations at POSSC Partner Meetings.
