Department Custom Scope
Under the supervision of the Assistant Director of Processing, the Verification Technician serves the public and executes various programmatic functions. This position verifies the accuracy of student information as provided on the FAFSA (Free Application for Federal Student Aid) as well as information provided on the Dream Act Application to verify documents according to federal, state and university regulations. This position reviews for verification completeness and obtains additional student information as needed and/or due to conflicting information. This position ensures all requests for financial aid materials and subsequent written communication to the student regarding required documents, eligibility criteria, and miscellaneous communication are handled in a timely manner. Responsibilities require organization of work area, prioritization of workload, and understanding of and ability to use an automated student information system. The Verification Technician is responsible for ensuring that the maintenance of and disposition of records complies with university policies and federal regulations. The Financial Aid Office works with a culturally and economically diverse population. The Verification Technician must be able to interact with students and parents with sensitivity and discretion, maintaining confidentiality at all times. This position requires specialized knowledge of complex federal, state, and university financial aid programs and the ability to process and convey this information accurately and clearly to students and parents. The responsibilities of the position require ability to efficiently and effectively use automated systems, including mainframe, PC, and web-based applications. The incumbent must maintain a high level of organization in the administration of duties. This position must be able to work effectively with frequent interruptions and to adjust priorities as circumstances dictate. |

STUDENT RECORDS Working under pre-established guidelines, performs needs analysis and assesses eligibility. Researches and resolves discrepancies and conflicting information with student records. Review and update data elements on the financial aid application using verification documents provided by the student. Responsible for the orderly flow of documentation from initial receipt through routing to appropriate staff. Maintains and disposes of records in compliance with university policies and federal regulations. | 60 |
INFORMATION DISSEMINATION Responds to student telephone inquiries on financial aid application procedures and requirements such as deadlines, eligibility criteria, dependency status, award notification timing, award guidelines, packaging philosophy, and disbursement/billings. Responsible for referring students to appropriate university department or state/federal agencies. Responsible for communicating to students procedures related to the overall processes for financial aid application, awarding, and disbursement.
