Custom Scope
Applies professional student services concepts, policies and procedures in the completion of Student Services assignments that are of limited scope and impact. Receives instructions on most work assignments, and regularly consults with Student Services specialists in the course of completing increasingly complex assignments. Follows standard practices and procedures in analyzing Student Services situations or data from which answers can be readily obtained. Exercises some judgment within defined procedures and policies to determine appropriate action.

Department Custom Scope
Under the supervision of the Student Affairs Officer, the incumbent has primary responsibility for providing service to current and prospective students and faculty for the Departments of Chemical/ Environmental Engineering and Bioengineering; intake advising, attend recruitment events, and coordination of graduate student affairs events for the departments of Chemical/ Environmental Engineering and Bioengineering. The incumbent will be responsible for the travel coordination of visitors and guests related to events linked to the graduate programs and entertainment requests in accordance to the G-28 travel policy and BUS-79 entertainment policy. Screen and answer questions from students, staff, faculty or the general public in person, by phone, e-mail, or virtually. Schedule appointments, make appropriate referrals, process applications for new students, intercept student requests for processing graduate forms, perform data entry, and maintain students' electronic files. Assist with the editing of websites related to the advising unit. Process new course requests and edit existing courses as needed. This position is front-facing and customer service-oriented, which will require the incumbent to have or obtain a knowledge of the departments, the staff, and their respective faculty to assist visitors and answer questions.

Under close supervision of higher-level professional: Provides straightforward information about department major requirements.
  • As department front-facing, provides the utmost friendly and professional service to current and perspective students, faculty, staff, visitor and any individual requesting information about department major and requirements via telephone, email, chat, or in person. Obtain good understanding of various major/ program requirements and provide most appropriate information based on knowledge. Answers questions and point individuals in the right direction as to what are the appropriate steps to complete their request. Escalates requests to higher authority as needed.

Assists higher level professionals in preparing admissions materials for review.
  • Assist the Student Affairs Officer with gathering all necessary admissions materials for review on a timely manner for the Departments of Chemical/ Environmental Engineering and Bioengineering.

Coordinate departmental events related to the graduate program for both departments, including seminars, colloquia, orientation, open house, graduate student association events, faculty recruitment, etc. Coordinates the travel for visitors and guests related to events and process reimbursements/ entertainment requests according to university policy and procedures.

  • Retrieves and inputs confidential data into university systems and ensure appropriate departmental records are maintained.
