Department Custom Scope
Under the general supervision of the Early Childhood Services (ECS) Executive Director, Site Supervisor, and the close supervision of the classroom Lead Teacher, the Classroom Assistant will provide assistance to ensure the smooth function of daily routines, implementation of the early care and education programs, and ensure compliance with mandated adult:child ratios. Works as part of the Early Childhood Services teaching team.

Supervision Provide supervision of all assigned children both indoors and outdoors, as directed by Lead Teacher.

Health and Safety Maintain a safe and healthy indoor and outdoor environment for children and participating adults in accordance with Title 22 Health and Safety Code, which will include cleaning and disinfecting of all materials and areas in the classroom and restrooms as needs arise during the day as part of the classroom team. Provide set up and clean up of lunches and snacks, provide assistance in clean up of indoor and outdoor activities by putting toys and materials in appropriate storage places, sweeping and other duties as assigned.

Daily Routine Prepare and observe learning activities as directed by assigned teaching staff, communicating information about children and activities to teaching staff for inclusion in documentation, and assist in opening and closing routines at the beginning and end of each day. Provide assistance to children in their daily routines which will include toileting, hand washing, rest time and meal time.

Professional Development Attend and participate in monthly staff meetings, bi-weekly team meetings, and professional development.

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities

Knowledge/Skill/Ability Requirement
Knowledge of current philosophies and research in early care and education, Pre-K Guidelines, and Early Literacy. Required
Skill to maintain confidentiality at all times. Required
Skills to take direction in meeting children's needs, classroom needs and parent needs. Required
Knowledge of National Association for the Education of Young Children (NAEYC) Developmentally Appropriate Practices. Required
Knowledge of appropriate health and safety standards for toileting, food handling and hand washing. Required
Skill to communicate effectively with children, staff and parents. Required
Physical ability to lift and carry children up to 30 pounds, frequently and as necessary. Required
Ability to perform CPR/First Aid on children who have been injured and may be unable to stand up and/or walk. Preferred
