Department Custom Scope
Serve as Athletic Trainer to UCR's Men's and Women's Intercollegiate Athletic programs. Supervise, under the direction of the Associate Athletics Director/Sports Medicine and Performance, team physicians and the Athletics Director, the prevention, evaluation, treatment and rehabilitation of athletic injuries for approximately 325 student-athletes competing in 17 Division I sports at UCR. Supervise, organize, and make referrals to appropriate medical personnel. Manage student athlete's medical insurance information for billing and referral purposes. Recondition and rehabilitate athletes on referral from physicians through the use of appropriate physical and therapeutic modalities. Regularly inform coaches on the status of injured athletes. Assist in the daily operation of the Sports Medicine Department. Assist in the development and supervision of an instruction program of athletic training for athletic training students and student intern/assistants/volunteers. Maintain an organized system of records and files on all aspects of the daily function of the sports medicine clinic.

Applies professional concepts to provide the full range of prevention and rehabilitation of athletic injuries by means of protective and therapeutic wrappings and use of therapeutic modalities, devices, and rehabilitation techniques.

Provides intercollegiate and sports club athletes with complex, advanced injury prevention training, and evaluation, management and rehabilitation of athletic injuries.

Administers first-aid to athletes. Provides advanced manual therapy skills applicable to orthopedics and sports medicine.

Enforces safety procedures.
  • Follow OSHA guidelines for biohazardous waste disposal.

Responsible for inventory maintenance, including clinical supplies and athletic equipment.

Reports injuries, completing appropriate documentation, and maintenance of medical charts.
  • Maintain updated files and accurate medical records of the following: athletic injuries, medical insurance, medical history, injury referrals, pre-participation examinations, schedules and other necessary data.

Provides moderate to complex rehabilitation of athletic injuries through the use of various therapeutic exercise programs.

Screens and refers injured athletes to athletic team physician or other medical services.

Daily control of infection and sanitation of the Sports Medicine Clinic by cleaning and disinfecting all equipment, floors, and tables.

Available to work all home/away practices and games/events including traveling with various teams with overnight travel under the direction of the Assistant Athletics Director/Sports Medicine.

Work with medical providers on insurance and processing for student athlete's injury claims.

Comply with NCAA, Big West Conference, University and Department rules and regulations.

Operate within an atmosphere of compliance, integrity, and within the scope and intent of NCAA, conference, and university regulations.

Provide a referral system for counseling and guidance services to all athletes for medical and non-medical problems.

Maintain Sports Medicine facilities and equipment, ensuring all athletic equipment is fully operational and Sports Medicine Clinics rooms are maintained according to standards.

For positions associated with Sports Medicine, must maintain current knowledge of applicable rules and standards of the affiliated athletic conference, the National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) or National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics (NAIA), as well as other associations and agencies to which the campus adheres, and, at all times, avoid any and all violations of these rules and standards.
