Custom Scope
Applies skills as a seasoned, experienced professional to coordinate AV, instructional technology services and delivery of customer service. Provides consultative advice to clients on technical, media presentation methods, techniques and equipment and intellectual property issues in instructional and special event settings. Analyzes technical, system, service delivery and/or business processes for efficiency and effectiveness. Reports and recommends changes.

Department Custom Scope
Under the direction of the Director of the Office of Faculty Development, the Instructional Technologist/Video Production Specialist will be responsible for the planning, development and implementation of educational technology initiatives in the SOM. The Instructional Technologist/Video Production Specialist supports faculty in integrating technology into their teaching in pedagogically sound ways and produces quality video learning assets. Evaluates educational technology including software and hardware that support faculty and student learning. Provides ongoing training and support to faculty in learning to use a range of educational technology tools including the learning management system, evaluation software and tools that support online and hybrid learning models. This includes support for courses, self-paced learning modules, audio/video components and other resources for faculty. The instructional Technologist/Video Production Specialist consults with faculty and instructional designers, recommends media and tools, and produces multimedia for the Office of Faculty Development and faculty. Responsible for developing and delivering faculty development and technical training to faculty.

Key Responsibilities

Description % Time
Interviews and assesses client requirements for instructional technology and advises on appropriate technology to meet specific instructional activities. Provides consultative advice to clients on technical, media methods, techniques and equipment in order to enhance the quality of the presentation. Advises users on technical options. Plans and consults regarding the installation of new equipment and equipment upgrades.
  • Works with Office of Faculty Development staff to provide services to faculty related to methods for delivering teaching content, improving learning outcomes, assessing student learning and facilitating technology-rich teaching to advance curricular innovation and SOM curricular initiatives.

Applies appropriate data collection methods to develop technical requirements for events and instruction. Develops standards, processes, and procedures to ensure consistent service delivery to clients. Develops user documentation, process improvements, or system design requirements. Coordinates special programs and projects in AV or instructional technology field, including media production, teaching with technology or web distribution. Works with a wide variety of media technologies, networks and computer hardware and software, applying appropriate solutions to non-standard problems.
  • Supports faculty in using a variety of software applications including, but not limited to Camtasia, Yuja, Articulate, Adobe Creative Suite, podcasting, videoconferencing, and audio/video editing software. Produces training materials in response to instructional needs. Develops and maintains educational technology resources for the OFD website. Writes and distributes educational technology related guides. Collects and disseminates information pertaining to best practices in educational assessment, curriculum development and technology-infused innovations. Works with the OFD Instructional Design team in creating online teaching and learning resources. Produces multi-media content for the OFD and the SOM, including planning, storyboarding, content acquisition, multimedia authoring, animation, graphics, video and audio production.

Develops and provides training as needed based on consultation with users and their understanding of AV technologies.
  • Conducts seminars, workshops and trainings on various education and technology related topics. Provides technical support for faculty users of all supported technologies.

Researches and evaluates relevant emerging educational technologies to make recommendations to the UCR SOM. Coordinates with appropriate SOM personnel in use of various educational technology resources. Develops, reviews, and advises on instructional technology policies and practice.

Maintains a log of activities, coordinates and documents projects and regularly reports status of projects to the Director of the Office of Faculty development and other department stakeholders.

Promotes a collaborative team effort within the Office of Faculty Development. Assists with faculty development programs and events as needed. Supports the culture of teaching excellence, inclusion, innovation, integrity, accountability, and respect as core values of the Office of Faculty Development and the UCR SOM. Other duties as assigned.
