Department Custom Scope
The Pediatrics department is seeking physicians in inpatient, outpatient, and mixed settings clinical practices in Riverside, San Bernardino, and Coachella Valley at UCR Health clinics and affiliate sites. Pediatricians supervise and/or perform a full range of professional work in primary care medicine involving the examination, diagnosis, and treatment of pediatric patients. They work collaboratively with other physician groups for patient care.

Possession of the education and legal requirements for the practice of medicine in California as determined by the California Board of Medical Quality Assurance. Required

Completion of medical residency program. Required
A minimum of 1 year of experience post internship/residency. Required
Experience in inpatient and outpatient settings. Preferred
Candidates must qualify for medical staff privileges at UCR Health and our affiliated sites/hospitals. Required
Background and skills in clinical practice, clinical teaching, and managed care. Preferred
Prior experience providing inpatient and/or outpatient pediatric care, newborn exams, and ER consults. Preferred
Experience and interest in chronic disease management and working in interdisciplinary teams. Preferred

Maintenance of California Medical License and Drug Enforcement Agency (DEA) prescribing number. Required

For employees in the inpatient setting: Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) and Neonatal Resuscitation Program (NRP) certification. Required
For employees in the outpatient setting: Basic Life Support (BLS) or Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) certification. Required

Key Responsibilities

Description % Time
Direct Patient Care: Pediatricians engage in a full range of direct patient care activities and medical/clinical practice as the principal component of their overall professional responsibility within the clinical setting. Associate Physicians provide patient care activities that include but are not limited to: Hospital inpatient setting: 1. Assessment, evaluation, diagnostic determination, on-going treatment and clinical management, necessary referral for consultation, care planning and modification, medications/therapeutic orders, transfer authorization, risk assessment, and, when appropriate, determination of readiness and planning for discharge. 2. Extensive and on-going communications with community primary care physicians or hospitalists who routinely manage the care of patients in the inpatient or outpatient settings. 3. Day-to-day patient contact/rounding/care management that actively encourages and includes professional input from all members of the patient care team. 4. Delivery room resuscitation and newborn care. 5. Consultation with ER physicians for pediatric patients. Clinical Outpatient Setting: 1. Assessment, evaluation, diagnostic determination, on-going treatment and clinical management, necessary referral for consultation, care planning and modification, medications/therapeutic orders, transfer authorization, risk assessment, and, when appropriate, determination of readiness and planning for discharge from the clinic. 2. Extensive and on-going communications with community primary care physicians or hospitalists who routinely manage the care of patients in the inpatient or outpatient settings. 3. Day-to-day patient contact as necessary. 4. Well child assessments and Order immunizations per the AAP (American Academy of Pediatrics guidelines).

Communication: Direct contact and consultation with patient family members, advocates, and others to ensure effective communication of patient status and care plans, and to encourage/support an open visitor-friendly environment within the medical/hospital environment.

Accurate and timely completion of all clinical and professional records and documentation to assure compliance with local, state, and federal regulatory, licensure and accreditation requirements.

Billing for Services: Accurately documents needed information to bill for services by recording diagnosis codes and completing corresponding documentation. Works with UCR billing services department, both clinical and nonclinical people, to explain, confirm, and review charges. Provides supporting documentation as needed.

Instruct residents, interns, and students in designated specialized medical service.
