Department Custom Scope
The Community Health Education Projects Coordinator will provide participants with opportunities to learn about and experience medicine, social determinants of health, health disparities and service in medically underserved communities. Will provide direction and oversee participants community health education projects providing guidelines and reviewing project proposals for K-12, undergraduate and postbaccalaureate students. The incumbent's primary responsibility is to coordinate community health education projects and lectures across Pathway Programs including Medical Leaders of Tomorrow, Future Physician Leaders, JumpStart and Mini Medical School. Serves as an advisor for Mini Medical School and coordinates Health Coach Program (HCP), a joint program between the University of California, Riverside School of Medicine and Riverside University Health System. As coordinator, the incumbent is responsible for developing an annual outreach plan to recruit undergraduate volunteers to serve as health coaches for HCP. Acts as coordinator for the community health education projects for Future Physician Leaders, Mini Medical School, Medical Leaders of Tomorrow and JumpStart.

Key Responsibilities

Description % Time
Develops, implements and evaluates effectiveness of health promotion/education programs.
  • In collaboration with program faculty advisors and Pathway Programs Director, develops guidelines for community health education projects/activities created by Pathway participants (high school, community college and university students). Supports students with course content and coaching on the presentation of the projects in academic and community settings. Collaborates with Pathway Program staff and faculty to design screening rubrics that are mindful of appropriate grade level and cultural sensitivity used when designing community health education projects. Collaborates with RUHS staff and clinicians to recruit and interview prospective health coaches on an annual basis. Develops and implements events to enhance recruitment and yield. Prepares and analyzes the reports on program outcomes, outreach efforts and student outcomes. Evaluates effectiveness and provides appropriate program recommendations. Serves as point of contact for Mini Medical School attending student board meetings, identifying venues and community partners for students to deliver presentations. Advises and coordinates venue partners including Health Sciences Partnership. Collaborates with key stakeholders for evaluation including RUHS, UCR SOM Office for Assessment & Evaluation and Pathway Programs. Responsible for quarterly submission of quarterly, mid-year and annual reports to the department and partners.

Assists in promoting health education components to physicians, staff, and patients through meeting presentations, printed promotional material, etc.
  • Delivers informational sessions and creates marketing materials for recruitment of participants. Communicates with key stakeholders through bi-weekly conference calls and convenes meetings. Other duties as assigned.

Develops an outreach plan to recruit undergraduate student volunteers annually to serve as health coaches. Oversees online health coach application process, applicant screening and interview process for 30-50 prospective coaches. Recruits interviewers and participates in interview process. Facilitates recruitment of guest speakers and supports event planning and oversight. Assists with recruiting Pathway Programs students offering community service experience/health education projects.
