Custom Scope
Using knowledge and skills as a seasoned, experienced Student Services professional, performs the full range of duties and responsibilities within a Student Life specialization. Assesses situations and determines appropriate action or referral. Works independently under general supervision to provide information and interpretation of complex policies, procedures and regulations. Identifies and responds to student needs for programs, services, and crisis intervention.

Department Custom Scope
The Student Life and Events Coordinator will serve as the event subject matter expert for all Student Affairs and Student Interest Group (SIG) related activities and student community service. They will provide advisement, guidance, encouragement, training, and support to student government leaders. This position is highly collaborative and the incumbent must be a self-starter and committed to student development and support.

Key Responsibilities

Description % Time
Provides ongoing transformational advising and development to student leaders participating in student government, co-curricular programs and/or organizations on a wide range of issues. Advises student leaders on complex and sensitive issues. Brings extensive knowledge to a student generated field of interest and supports, guides and mentors students in formulating projects related to those issues. Guides students in interaction with campus leaders and represents students on these issues when appropriate. Coaches student leaders on communication and leadership skills.
  • Oversees and serves as staff advisor for Student Interest Groups. Attends select Student Affairs events. Provides information to students and faculty regarding organization policies and procedures. Applies professional Student Services concepts in providing a variety of student services to medical and graduate students. Provides consultation for all medical student council (medical student government) and student interest group related activities. Coordinates activities with student representatives, to include the Community Service Student Representatives, and ensures compliance requirements are met.

Independently provides the full range of support services for a student program(s) and/or provides the full range of academic support services for a residential complex.
  • Under the general direction of the supervisor, secures approval and coordinates program logistics, purchases, re-charges, evaluates program cost-effectiveness, maintains program/event budgets, and periodically reviews and assesses program/events financial needs. Assists with providing Student Affairs Office budget support by reviewing ledgers and department monthly reconciliations including clearing encumbrances. Performs regular department support as a requestor for event and student life related purchases within the Student Affairs Office. Incumbent will be expected to stay abreast all UCR/UC policies related to events and Student Interest group activities including attending the user group meetings.

Plans, organizes, implements, and provides support for all aspects of Student Affairs events including in-person and/or virtual, hybrid or portions of campus-wide events such as, but not limited to symposiums, conferences, program events, banquets, VIP briefings, and retreats. Assigned responsibilities for an event include securing venues, parking/transportation, catering, staffing, etc. Events may include but are not limited to: Wellness activities, UCR SOM Recruitment Day, Medical Student Orientation(s), Preview Day and Medical Prom.

Provides recommendations, reports, and metrics on feasibility of new and current programs.
  • Develops and establishes standard operating procedures (SOPs) for Student Affairs related activities including compliance procedures for non-curricular community service and service learning activities for students.

Develops and maintains relationships with internal and external organization stakeholders critical to program success.
  • Builds relationship with vendors. Facilitates community service opportunities with outside or external agencies in collaboration with other college units such as the Center for Healthy Communities. Facilitates and identifies community organizations and partners for community service opportunities for students.

Administers a limited public service program, providing such services as working with outside agencies to refer students and develop programs to work in public service roles; identifying resources for student volunteer opportunities; matching student volunteers with outside public service agencies. Provides education, training and reflection opportunities to students engaged in public service.
  • Oversees, monitors and manages non-curricular community service opportunities for students in consultation with their supervisor.
