Department Custom Scope
Working under the supervision of the Associate Dean for Medical Education Quality and Integration, the Educational Research Analyst assists the Office of Accreditation and Institutional Effectiveness (OAIE) with designing and implementing tools and operations that assess medical students and evaluate the effectiveness of the undergraduate medical education program. The Educational Research Analyst is responsible for managing data processing, including generating and cataloging OAIE reports and institutional related research data. This position reports to the Associate Dean for Medical Education Quality and Integration. The individual filling this position works within learning management systems (ExamSoft, One45 Data Analytics, MedHub, Canvas) and stays current in curriculum and accreditation standards.

Key Responsibilities

Researches, gathers, analyzes and summarizes information for basic data research projects.
  • As requested by the Associate Dean for Medical Education Quality, works closely with course/clerkship directors and with other members of the faculty and administration to provide accurate and timely data reports to ensure that assessment and evaluation measures of the MD program are consistently applied and are linked to accreditation standards and best educational practices. Develops and maintains a comprehensive system of data management and reporting. Participates as a key member of the Office of Accreditation and Institutional Effectiveness team to produce timely data reports as needed on important curricular outcome measures for key designated entities, including internal constituents (e.g., the Medical Education Committee and all of its subcommittees) and external constituents (e.g., Liaison Committee on Medical Education, Western Association of Schools and Colleges).

Assignments require analysis of multiple factors or data sources.
  • Promotes a culture of outcome-based assessment and data-driven decision-making. Guides development and implementation of a comprehensive assessment plan. Develops and streamlines a clearinghouse of key tools to assess students and evaluate the medical education program. Maintains the UCR SOM's educational software platforms, communicating with vendors and overseeing data entry by Office of Educational Affairs staff to ensure prompt and accurate data entry for all necessary educational functions including student grading systems/databases, curriculum mapping databases, and student evaluations of teaching (SETs) to administer the Review and Enhancement of Critical Institutional Teaching Elements (RECITE) program.

Able to synthesize issues and present them in a creative and non-technical manner.
  • Collaborates with leadership to identify and respond to new opportunities for assessment and evaluation. Uses software and data visualization tools to present data in user-friendly formats that support data-driven curricular decisions. Develops and implements technical solutions to streamline processes and improve efficiency. Creates and maintains a comprehensive set of user manuals that teach qualified colleagues how to use all required systems for curricular data entry and data management.

Helps develop systems that manage, store and retrieve data for analysis to answer ad hoc informational requests and tracking of students and faculty.
  • Coordinates effective research design, methods, statistical analysis and data reporting to yield accurate and useful data reports that allow the UCR SOM and accrediting organizations to evaluate the effectiveness of the medical education program.
