Department Custom Scope
Under the minimal supervision of the Student Health Services Associate Chief Physician, the OB-GYN, or Obstetrician Gynecologist, diagnoses and treats various medical conditions that impact women?s health for the campus community at UCR. Their duties include diagnosing and monitoring illnesses and diseases, providing medical support to pregnant women and performing routine check-ups on female patients.

Graduate of an accredited Medical School and successful completion of a Psychiatry Residency at an ACGME accredited program. Required
Four years of completed ObGyn Residency Required
Board certified and state licensed in ObGyn Required
ACLS certified Required

Experience working in an University Student Health Center. Preferred
Experience working with traditional college age population. Preferred
Experience working with Point and Click "EMR". Preferred
Must have inpatient, outpatient and triaging experience in assessing and treating Women's Health diseases . Required
Experience with Medical Abortions 2-3 years Required

Current unrestricted License to practice medicine in the state of California. Required
Possession of an unrestricted Federal DEA license and have a Board Certification in ObGyn. Required

Key Responsibilities

Description % Time
Evaluation, Diagnosis, Treatment & Follow-up Performing a wide range of tests, including pap smears, pelvic, and breast exams. Diagnosing and prescribing treatments for disorders and diseases. Conducting routine check-ups on patients. Monitoring and treating expectant mothers during pregnancy, childbirth, and postpartum. Recording medical histories. Educating patients about disease prevention and detection, and reproductive health. Collaborating with other medical and non-medical personnel. Keeping up to date with current practices and innovations.

Consultation Collaborates directly with primary care providers and team members for an interdisciplinary approach to Women's Health cases. Assures appropriate management of Women's Health cases, which may include assuming overall management of challenging clinical cases. Provides Women's Health consultation to SHS clinicians (physicians, nurse practitioners, physician assistants), and UCR Case Managers and other University Partners.

Contributes to the establishment of policy regarding Women's Health industry standards in the forms of: treatment, referrals, confidentiality, release of information to and from outside professional sources, record keeping and any other issues affecting standards of care.

Contributes to review of Women's Health records according to departmental standards, policies and procedures, quality of care issues and QI studies. Will be actively involved in supporting Chief Physician to attain AAAHC re-accreditation.

Within SHS reports to supervisor all issues which may impact patient care and safety and contributes to their resolution.

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities

Knowledge/Skill/Ability Requirement
Ability to work and communicate in a positive and cooperative manner in a multi-disciplinary environment. Good written and oral communication skills using fluent English, including medical charting and correspondence. Required
Knowledge of AAAHC requirements relating to Women's Health treatment and charting. Experience with ICDI0 coding. Required
Knowledge of current ObGyn diagnosis and treatment principles relating to general practice, and specifically to a young adult population. Required
Knowledge of standards of Women's Health in the greater community. Required
Knowledge of HIPAA, confidentiality and patient privacy issues pertaining to the delivery of health care. Experience with Electronic Medical Records. Required
Ability to communicate effectively with students and their family, providers, and staff members. Required
Knowledge of and a strong interest in working with college age patients. Awareness of special issues affecting students engaged in rigorous academic programs and experiencing life on campus and developmental issues as they impact a students adjustment to campus life.
