Department Custom Scope
Under general supervision of the Assistant Provost, the Education Abroad Program Advisor will provide general office support, student advising, event planning, and marketing and outreach activities for the Education Abroad Office. Education Abroad programs include the Faculty-Led Education Abroad Program (FLEAP), UC Education Abroad Program (UCEAP), and Opportunities Abroad Program (OAP).

Key Responsibilities

Description % Time
Applies professional student services concepts in providing a variety of student services to the student population served by the organization, and to faculty and management within that organization.
  • Advises students on Education Abroad programs with special attention to UCEAP application processes. Provides individual advising, as needed, through a student?s affiliation with an Education Abroad program. Provides expertise on UCEAP student support services, such as helping students identify appropriate UCEAP programs based on their interests and/or areas of study. Refers to appropriate UCEAP or UCR units, which may provide the best resolution of student concerns (e.g., course requirements, financial aid questions). Assists staff in the planning and implementation or pre-departure, re-entry, and post-graduation services.

Financial Aid: Participates in the processing, evaluation, and awarding of student fellowships, grants, and other awards; advises students on financial aid options.
  • Refers and assists students in applying for international and extramural scholarships. Assists with certifying student scholarship applications. Helps students navigate financial aid policies and procedures pertaining to UCEAP.

Marketing and Outreach: Assists in preparing general advertising, press releases, and announcements for programs and/or events. Assists in the development of recruitment materials including web resources, newsletters, announcements, event calendars, posters, social media campaigns, etc. Identifies classes, clubs or other groups for oral presentations on education abroad programs. Prepares and delivers oral presentations appropriate to the group focus and size.

Receives, prepares, and reviews confidential paper and electronic MyUCR Abroad and UCEAP applications for accuracy and completeness.

Events: Coordinates and implements non-complex student events and assists in the planning and implementation of complex events.

Responds to inquiries, telephone calls, and written communication in compliance with university policies and regulations; and schedules appointments, as appropriate.

Collaborates with faculty, advising units, academic departments, and other student service units to assess students' needs.
