Department Custom Scope
Under close supervision, performs unskilled or semi-skilled tasks. Perform operations such as weeding, hoeing, pruning, brush removal, irrigation, and harvest crops. Assist in servicing and repairing of mini-sprinklers and irrigation lines, recording labor hours; operate simple equipment such as light trucks. May work directly with Principle Investigator(s) (PI) or Staff Research Associate (SRA) on specific projects. Work activities will be directed through supervisor.

Key Responsibilities

Description % Time
Under close supervision, performs unskilled or semi-skilled tasks such as hoe weeds, transplant vegetable or tree crops, thin row crops, prune and sucker citrus, harvest, hand application of fertilizer, portable sprinkler set-up, connect an assortment of irrigation hoses and micro-sprays, maintain and repair PVC irrigation system. Use simple hand tools to perform duties, Operate light trucks, Support greenhouse in unskilled or semi-skilled tasks.

Knowledge/Skill/Ability Requirement
Ability to read, write, follow oral and written instructions, communicate in English and demonstrated ability to perform general agricultural work; and knowledges and abilities essential to the successful performance of the duties assigned to the position. Required
Ability to operate light pick-up trucks. Required
Ability to work in an outside environment during inclement weather and temperature extremes; daily moving of material up to 40 pounds with assistance. Required
Ability to record labor hours using basic arithmetic calculations in field areas and plot locations of work assignments Required
Demonstrated ability to perform general agricultural work, general greenhouse work, and citrus cultural care; experience in minor mini sprinkler and irrigation repairs Required
Knowledge of basic tree care, greenhouse care, and irrigation systems Preferred
