Custom Scope
As a seasoned, experienced professional in K-14 academic preparation, independently works with assigned institutions and organizations to plan and implement a wide range of academic preparation programming. Develops and maintains program visibility in schools. Develops and maintains collaborative relationships with K-14 and higher education institutions and/or community entities. Develops collaborative relationships with other college-going programs.

Department Custom Scope
The Upward Bound Classic Assistant Director (AD) is responsible for the management and implementation of all aspects of the Upward Bound Federal Grant Program Classic (100%). The AD will provide pre-college services to more than 85 students and their parents at 3 high schools in Riverside County. Responsibility includes conceptualization, development and implementation of program services described in grant objectives. The AD will provide advising, supervision, and instruction to high school student participants to help them develop academic skills which enable them to qualify and successfully graduate from a 4-year university. The AD will serve as primary contact for the Upward Bound Federal Grant Program and UCR representative for each high school that is served by Upward Bound. In addition, the AD will serve as the resource person for high school personnel on matters related to students' preparation. The AD will work collaboratively with other grant programs in the Office of TRIO Programs; develop relationships with other campus offices such as: the Early Academic Outreach Program (EAOP), UCR Office of Admissions, Office of Financial Aid, Career Center, Learning Center, and others. The AD will recruit, select, train, and supervise the High School Coordinator (K to 14 ACAD PREP SPEC 2). The AD will be responsible for the collection of information and tracking of program services provided to participants for the annual performance report. Provides assistance to the Director in making decisions regarding allocations of funds for implementation of grant objectives. In the absence of the TRIO Office Director, the AD along with the TRIO Office Manager, will provide oversight of the operation for the Office of TRIO Programs. This position is grant funded and is subject to availability of continued grant funding. The UBC grant is entering year 1 of a 5 year grant.

Key Responsibilities

Delivers individual and group advising services and maintains relationships with a group of K-14 students.

Develops student academic plans to ensure post-secondary admission eligibility.
  • Will create a Four-Year Plan for each UBC participant. With the assistance of the High School Coordinator, will create an individual Transcript Evaluation for each participant.

Produces program reports, collects student data, documents participant contacts and progress, and tracks academic progress of program participants.
  • Responsible for meeting the objectives of the program, as set forth in Upward Bound approved grant proposal.

Implements and facilitates recruitment and program alumni events.
  • Responsible for participant recruitment. Will oversee all aspects of recruitment with the assistance of the High School Coordinator.

Assist the Director in making decisions regarding allocation of funds, budget projections, proposing expenditures for implementation of the program and ensuring compliance with grant regulations. Work closely with the Director to prepare and submit all sections of the Annual Performance Report to the Federal Department of Education.
