Generic Scope

Custom Scope
Under general supervision, develops and/or oversees research proposals, awards and/or transactions related to contract and grant management and maintains contract and grant records in compliance with institutional and research sponsor policies. Works on proposals of moderate scope such as single investigator NSF proposals where analysis of financial information or reports requires review of a variety of factors (e.g. budgets, salaries, expenses, etc). Receives assignments on project basis and fully analyzes problems, gathers data and information, and recommends solutions. May be eligible for delegated signature authority. Completes and approves transactions for signature by manager or other authorized institutional official.

Department Custom Scope
The custom scope is revised in the following aspects: (a) The position involves no post-award administration. No contract and grant management, post-award record-keeping, or post-award compliance management activities are within the defined scope. (b) Works independently on small to medium-size proposals and contributes to large-size proposals. (c) Provides full support to faculty during the preparation of primarily small proposals. Typical activities include responding to emails and inquiries in a timely manner, and performing all the tasks related to the preparation of compliant and competitive proposals. Such tasks consist of reading and understanding funding opportunities, identifying the proposal components, preparing proposal checklists and component outlines, developing budgets and budget justifications, requesting and collecting proposal documents from UC Riverside investigators and any external collaborators, reviewing and formatting documents as needed, coordinating the proposal preparation process for submission to the Office of Research and Economic Development (RED) in a timely manner, and solving issues as they present (d) Contributes to the identification and distribution of relevant funding opportunities. A writing sample and/or assessment will be required before or during the job interview. **As a condition of employment, you will be required to comply with the University of California SARS-CoV-2 (COVID-19) Vaccination Program Policy. Key Responsibilities

Description % Time
(CR): Under general supervision, provides advice and counsel regarding sponsored projects administration to Department Administrators and PIS. Supports grant writing and proposal development initiatives to improve funding success.
  • Coordinate/manage the overall proposal preparation process and submission to RED. Under general supervision prepare simple to medium-complexity proposal budgets and support documents as required by the solicitation guidelines. Read and interpret solicitations and obtain clarifications from the sponsor or University experts as needed. Provide support and guidance to PIs on the preparation of contract and grant proposals. Identify potential issues pertaining to internal compliance and approval, such as biohazards, human/animal subjects, release time, construction costs, and subcontracting. Identify sponsor requirements that can affect the competitiveness of the proposal. Establish and enforce schedules for proposal preparation. Prepare responsive proposal checklists and component outlines. Develop project budgets and budget justifications. Prepare supporting documents as needed. Communicate with all internal and external collaborators in a timely and professional manner. Review and format documents as needed. Assure that proposals are fully responsive and compliant to the sponsor requirements. Package and upload proposal components to submission portals for submission to the Office of Research and Development (RED). Maintain archives of proposals.

  • Maintain commonly used proposal resources, including boilerplate descriptions of UC Riverside resources. Collect, review, and summarize reviewer comments and maintain a file of lessons learned for future proposals.
