Department Custom Scope
Under the general direction of the Director of Research Services, the incumbent in this position performs daily administration of Research Services unit operations, including the reference service; provides workshop coordination; and supports Research Services projects and spaces, performs work independently and uses paraprofessional and advanced operational and technical skills involving a general knowledge of library practices and procedures; assists in directing student assistants in maintaining an efficient workflow in the reference area. This position is designated as a Mandated Reporter and will be required to complete trainings and comply with CANRA. Must pass FBI/Department of Justice background check.

Key Responsibilities

Description % Time
Research Services - Student Supervision Performs day-to-day administration of reference services for the Research Services Department. Implements and assesses the student-staffed service model at the Orbach Science Library. Provides supervision, including hiring, training and scheduling a team of student workers for the information desk and poster printing service. Proposes and tracks student worker budget. Refers questions as appropriate to Research Services librarians. Works closely with the Teaching and Learning Coordinator to ensure that reference service is aligned across the Orbach and Rivera libraries. Maintains supplies for Research Services workroom and Creat'R Lab, including ordering necessary items and tracking expenses across multiple funds. Promotes Research Services by updating relevant web pages, creating informative displays, and assisting with outreach initiatives.

Public Service Function Manages large-format plotter printing service. Works with patrons to print materials, maintains documentation, and trains other staff in using the plotter equipment. Coordinates incoming consultation requests from students, staff, and faculty seeking research assistance. Coordinates workshops for the Research Services department and Creat'R Lab, including scheduling rooms and communicating with workshop presenters before and after the workshop. Assists with departmental events, including scheduling rooms, creating handouts, and purchasing refreshments.

Research Services Department Support Maintains supplies for Research Services workroom, poster printing service, and department members? offices, including ordering necessary items. Maintains and reports statistics regarding the department?s services: Information Desk interactions, Poster Printing usage, Workshop attendance and assessment information.

Other Serves as a Building Emergency Staff (BES) for the Library. May serve as an Acting Building Supervisor for Emergency Conditions (BSEC) if a BSEC is unavailable. Contributes to departmental, library-wide, and other job-related meetings and working groups. Other Duties as assigned.
