Applies advanced technical project management frameworks and methods and campus, medical center or Office of the President objectives to resolve highly complex issues where analysis of situations or data requires an in-depth evaluation of variable factors. Determines methods, techniques and evaluation criteria to obtain results. Manages projects of broad and diverse scope, size, impact, budget and/or project team size, with considerable impact to the organization.

Department Custom Scope
Under the guidance of the Chief Technology Officer, the IT Project Manager will act as a technical project manager under the general direction of the management and will utilize standard project management practices and tools in the delivery of technical projects within the UCR School of Medicine; and its missions. The candidate must demonstrate strong analytical skills, provide team leadership updates, and use prescribed techniques to deliver a variety of information technology project types, sizes, and criticalities.

Key Responsibilities

Description % Time
Has overall project management responsibility. May lead a team of technical project management professionals. Assembles and directs large project teams, develops detailed project plans and schedules and monitors budget and resources. Directs project activities with the goal of completing the project on schedule and within budget constraints. Interacts with senior internal and external personnel. Oversees the project from initiation through delivery including system integration, project and campus, medical center or Office of the President communications, interaction with vendors and managing risk.
  • Leads the development of the overall approach of each technical project, its major time frames, and the definition of its major deliverables to address and meet the desired goals and outcomes. Advise and builds, and maintain relationships across the school of medicine community. Establishes and ensures appropriate governance functions for the School of Medicine policies and procedures practices. Partners with the stakeholder(s) to communicate goals, objectives, and potential outcomes. Directs the creation and maintenance of documentation and reviews with the stakeholders to identify changes to address. Oversee the project execution, their progress compared with the plan, and the production of agreed deliverables. Leads regular interactions with the stakeholder(s) to inform, alert, negotiate and maintain a continuing good relationship and shared vision for the project outcome. Monitors and coordinates dependencies across the projects in the program and resolves conflicts.

Implements the project management process for the campus, medical center or Office of the President's products and services involving diverse departmental or cross-functional teams. Initiates, designs and leads project proposals and reports.
  • Acts as IT Project Manager for UCR's School of Medicine, working with internal and external stakeholders and campus/UCOP resources.
