Department Custom Scope
The UCR ARTS Preparator is responsible for assisting with all aspects of preparation and production of UCR ARTS exhibitions. The position will work under the direction of the Senior Preparator and will work closely with others to prepare physical and conceptual designs for contemporary and historical art and interactive exhibitions.

Experience in light construction techniques, fine art framing, and dry mounting. Required
Minimum of 3 years of experience working in the arts or related environment Preferred

2-3 years experience working in the arts, construction, fine art framing or related experience. Preferred

Fabrication of Exhibition furnishings, mounts, supports, and temporary wall structures.

Assist with all aspects of museum show preparation: framing works, creating and mounting labels, installing vinyl, and hanging artworks.

Safely moving artworks to and from storage, soft packing and crating works for shipment, local pickup and delivery of works.

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities

Knowledge/Skill/Ability Requirement
Knowledge/practice in packing/shipping/receiving/condition reporting and care of a variety of fine arts objects and materials. Required
Computer proficiency. Ability to use Microsoft Office suite of products. Required
Ability to move and lift at least 60lbs. Required
Record of efficient performance in installing fine art exhibits under strict timelines with close attention to detail, or similar activity. Required
Exceptional interpersonal and communication skills applicable to a deadline oriented, creative, and academic atmosphere. Required
Knowledge of digital media installation techniques for projectors, televisions, audio installations, and lighting. Required
Knowledge of contemporary museum design, practices and standards. Required
Knowledge/practice in packing/shipping, receiving, and care of a variety of fine arts objects and materials Required
Ability to read and interpret construction drawing and plans for fabrication. Required
Ability to function independently and take responsibility fo results. Required
Ability to work in small, confined spaces and at heights on lifts and ladders for extended periods. Required
Skills in the use of power and hand tools used in the fabrication of exhibition furniture. (miter saw, table saw, panel saw, etc.) Preferred
Knowledge of shop safety procedures, tool maintenance, and inventory management. Preferred
Knowledge/practice of materials used in preparation and care of works on paper and photographic materials. Preferred
