Department Custom Scope
The Molecular Biology Laboratory Technician will be responsible for running and analyzing molecular assays for the detection of human pathogens. Experience with molecular techniques including DNA/RNA extraction and real-time polymerase chain reaction (RT-PCR) is required. Knowledge and expertise in sterile technique and microbiology are also required. Experience with virology, multichannel pipetting and robotics is highly desirable. Must be willing to perform assigned duties in a Biosafety level 2 (BSL-2) laboratory. Demonstrated organizational skills are highly desirable. A bachelor's degree in one of the biological sciences majors is preferred. The incumbent's duties will include (i) isolating RNA from clinical samples, (ii) using laboratory automation, (iii) performing RT-PCR, and (iv) documenting test results and preparing them for reporting. |
