Department Custom Scope
The medical assistant is responsible for assisting physicians and professional nursing staff in providing care and treatment of patients. The medical assistant will assist front office staff as needed in patient registration, appointments, and record keeping. The medical assistant will maintain and clean equipment, keep an inventory of supplies, and be responsible for ordering supplies. |

Clinical Support Determine the chief complaint and document in the patient chart with close attention to accurate use of medical terms, correct spelling, and legibility. Prepare patients for exam with correct positioning and draping. Take accurate, careful readings of vital signs as indicated and record them in the chart. Assist with treatments and exams, including but not limited to: gynecological exams; minor dressing changes; certain immunizations, ear lavage, fitting of crutches, splints, and slings; screening eye exams; specimen collection and transport, peak flow and O2 saturation. Review charts for lab and x-ray results, correct completion of all lab and x-ray, consultation requests, and accurate filing of all chart information. Record treatment inpatient management system using correct ICD9 billing codes and attributing treatment to the correct provider. Other duties as assigned. | 80 |
Inventory Control Monitor medical supplies inventory, consult with supervisor regarding items needed, placing orders with sales representative to maintain reasonable stocks of supplies. Maintain the storeroom in an orderly fashion so that supplies are easily located and storage space in maximized. Using the computer system, check items out of the storeroom to maintain correspondence of the stocks on hand with the records in the computer. Assists with periodic inventories of the storeroom. | 10 |
Exam Room Preparation Clean exam rooms, workstations, and equipment as necessary. Stock rooms with all needed supplies. Clean and sterilize equipment, using the sterilizer or chemicals. Maintain observation room beds, change linens and prepare laundry for pick up (maintain a laundry inventory). | 5 |
Front Office Support Provide front office support on a backup basis which includes, but is not limited to: scheduling, cashiering, medical records, patient billing, charting, referrals, etc. | 5 |
