Department Custom Scope
The Data Analyst will support the Office of Research and Economic Development and the Office of Technology Partnerships to improve decision making and facilitate continuous improvement of its processes and programs to maximize impact in the region. By understanding the generated data from the different processes at RED and OTP and by deriving insights the Data Analyst will help create efficiencies, maximize project outcomes and facilitate integrated grant reporting and progress reports.

Key Responsibilities

Description % Time
Consults with end users to gather and clarify data and reporting needs for complex business intelligence solutions and analytics. Writes queries, develops report templates, and dashboards.
  • Create and support automated recurring reporting for the office. Structure and implement data collection and analysis strategies for major grant metrics (e.g., EDA, Blackstone, SBDC) and OTP departmental impact reporting for annual reports and news stories. Work with different OTP members to ensure data accuracy and integrity into databases. Create visual dashboards to easily display metrics and data extracted from disparate databases and data sources. Ensure accuracy in all RED data-related deliverables, including establishing QA processes and testing reports, dashboards and other reports before release.

Performs predictive analysis and forecasting to provide information that supports organizational goals. Mines data to quantify relationships and identify issues warranting further analysis.
  • Build and deploy surveys for the organization using Qualtrics and incorporate data in central database. Identify new sources of data and methods to improve data collection, analysis and reporting. Ensure teams throughout the organization have access to high quality, useful reports by gathering requirements for, building, and deploying reports to allow stakeholders to ?self-serve? their data needs. Develop programs and reports extracting data from internet sources and UCR proprietary databases as needed.

Serves on internal committees and participates on cross-functional teams to solve business, process, service and/systems issues.
  • Serve as RED point person for other data projects on campus. Serve as point person for all data requests, ensuring that requestors receive accurate data and results within specified timelines, including routing to the appropriate RED team member when necessary. Interface with economic development partners (e.g., County, City, Chambers of Commerce, SBDC, Economic development organizations) to collect and exchange data.

Conducts on-going analyses of data sources and data sets. Identifies issues and collaborates on developing solutions to data management challenges.
  • Ensure outcome data from our startups, projects, participants, etc. is up to date on a monthly/quarterly basis. Monitor and advise on data privacy regulations. Monitor grant reporting deadlines and assist managers in timely reporting.

Participates in developing and/or delivering curriculum for end user training to ensure user competence, data access, and optimal performance of BI tools and processes.
