Exercises judgment in selecting methods, techniques and evaluation criteria for obtaining results. Typically leads or supervises other staff or students.

Department Custom Scope
As an important member of the Recreation Department Program Management Team, the Assistant Director of Aquatic Programs is responsible for the development, administration and oversight of a comprehensive aquatics program which will provide aquatic facilities, programs and services to the UCR campus and community. The Assistant Director of Aquatic Programs is responsible for the overall management of aquatics programming and staff, equipment maintenance, and general operations of the Student Recreation Center Aquatics Complex. The incumbent will also provide leadership and direction in the development, coordination and execution of special events programming at the aquatics complex working collaboratively with a variety of campus departments to meet the needs of the University community.

Develops, schedules and makes programmatic and budget recommendations for highly diverse and complex programs and events. Performs short and long term planning for recreational program(s) and/or activities.
  • Develop, direct, manage and implement a broad based Aquatics program. Makes recommendations for current and future needs of the program.

Selects, supervises and evaluates student employees, student officials and referees. Assists in development and implementation of comprehensive student employee training program.
  • Conducts regular in-service trainings and certification courses. Selects, supervises, evaluates, and develops the Aquatics personnel including the Aquatics Coordinator. Encourage and support professional development opportunities for student and career staff including training programs, professional association involvement, research, conferences, and individual mentoring. Participate on various committees within and outside of UCR.

Has overall responsibility for aquatics equipment, and manages a program budget of approximately $228k for complex programs and events within the Aquatics program. Works closely with the SRC facility team and scheduling coordinator for proper maintenance and facility usage. Works closely with various SRC personnel for use of shared facility.

Researches, develops and implements activity-specific risk management guidelines for all programs.
  • Work closely with the department's Risk Management Coordinator to develop, implement, and facilitate comprehensive risk management guidelines and protocols for aquatics programs and events. Maintain full knowledge of current risk management standards, policies, and practices in the aquatics operations and programming. Develop and implement a comprehensive risk management program to ensure the safety of the all participants and to minimize the risk exposure of the department and campus.

Coordinates a variety of social, cultural, recreational and physical activities that are offered on a short-term or intermittent basis.

Proposes updates/revisions to standard operating procedures and guidelines. Conducts periodic reviews of historical and statistical records and standings.

Maintains a supportive environment for program participants and facilitates involvement.

Enforces program policies and procedures. Conducts ongoing evaluation of recreational programs to ensure compliance with university and program objectives.
  • Regularly reviews Aquatics program polices and makes necessary updates accordingly.

Coordinates professional and student staff to develop and implement publicity and promotional programs. Supports design, maintenance and ongoing use of comprehensive website for all program participants.
