Generic Scope
Directs through subordinate managers multiple large and complex critical programs impacting broad constituencies across major portions of the organization. Identifies objectives, manages very significant human, financial, and physical resources, and functions with an extremely high degree of autonomy. Accountable for formulating and administering policies and programs for major functions. Operational or program results can affect overall organization-wide performance and reputation. Directs through subordinate managers the development of strategic goals and objectives to achieve accountability and stewardship of university resources in a manner consistent with systemwide objectives and initiatives.

Custom Scope
As the lead campus and/or medical center fundraiser, coordinates fundraising efforts, including creating comprehensive strategic fundraising plans designed to ensure optimal support from private philanthropic sources. Manages development programs within central Development Office, including fundraising activities and central development support operations. Provides high-level oversight and support to individualized fundraising programs and activities throughout campus and/or medical center. Serves as <> of UC <> Foundation and as a member of the Chancellor's Cabinet. Manages a personal portfolio of highest-level donors/friends. Provides advice/counsel to senior management including the Chancellor, deans, directors, faculty, trustees and volunteers on all aspects of fundraising. Works with campus and/or medical center leadership; participates in creating multiple-source financing plans for various capital projects.

Department Custom Scope
The associate vice chancellor for development (AVC) will report to the vice chancellor for university advancement. This individual will oversee 45 staff engaged in development work supporting college and school major and principal gifts, intercollegiate athletics, library, and university extension fundraising, corporate and foundation relations, gift planning, regional fundraising, and annual giving. The AVC will participate in the campus strategic planning process and build a comprehensive development program reflecting the university's overarching values and vision. The AVC will work closely with the vice chancellor, chancellor, provost, deans, and other university leadership to set priorities and annual goals to meet long-term university-wide objectives. He or she will also actively solicit feedback and input from deans, faculty, donors, and alumni to ensure that UCR's fundraising efforts are effective and reflect institutional priorities. The AVC will review the current development structures and activities to ensure they are effective, strategic, innovative, flexible, and donor-centric. Lastly, the AVC will build strong, trusting relationships with advancement colleagues and partners, and teams across the university, establishing a culture of philanthropy, collaboration, and service. Key Responsibilities

Provides high level oversight and support and coordinates fundraising efforts for the campus and/or medical center, including creating and developing short- and long-term strategic planning for development activities; creates strategies linking opportunities/needs in schools, colleges, departments, divisions, medical center and campus programs with philanthropic interests of donors, and ensures an organized, inclusive and decentralized approach while maintaining consistent and integrated public message(s).
  • Provide inspiration, motivation, accountability, and behavioral modeling for a talented, ambitious team of professional and support staff across seven colleges and schools, a library system, athletic department, graduate division, and university continuing professional education programs. Manage central support functions in a responsive, accountable, and collaborative manner that advances the success of the academic units and the entire campus. Establish and develop cultural norms, practices, and behaviors that support high engagement, high quality staff recruitment, employee retention, and professional growth and development.

Serves as the lead fundraiser for the campus and/or medical center.
  • Serve as one of the architects and leaders of future campaign efforts, including the planning, launch, and successful execution of UCR?s second comprehensive fundraising campaign. This role will have a significant role in creation of the case for giving, goal setting, timing, and priorities.

Manages a personal portfolio of prospects including the most influential and generous alumni and friends.
  • Manage an appropriately sized, high-level portfolio of principal gift prospects, cultivating, soliciting, and closing significant philanthropic commitments that benefit the research, teaching, and service mission of the University.

May lead, direct, and manage large complex programs within the central development office, including central office fundraising activities and central development support operations.
  • Provide analytic oversight to moves management systems, productivity and output metrics, and forecasting of private support throughout the course of the year.

Serves as a leader of the non-profit public-benefit corporation that raises, invests and administers funds donated to the Foundation.
  • The AVC also serves as executive vice president of the UCR Foundation, a 501(c)(3) corporation that promotes private support of UCR and manages donated assets on its behalf. In this role, the AVC is an officer of the corporation and works closely with the board of trustees to solicit gifts and introductions, and engages the development team to develop a robust culture of philanthropy on campus and in the community.

Provides expert counsel and advice on all development/advancement matters to the Vice Chancellor, Chancellor, deans, directors, etc.
  • Advise and support Chancellor, Vice Chancellor for Advancement, provost, deans, and other academic and administrative leaders in cultivating and soliciting principal-gift commitments to the University.

Selects, trains, mentors, guides, directs and evaluates staff, and as required, takes corrective action.
  • Set clear direction and priorities for a staff of 45 professional and administrative support personnel across development. Continually assess staff strengths and recruit new staff as necessary, maintaining a high-quality, diverse development team.

Function as a collaborative member of an integrated advancement leadership team, ensuring smooth coordination with alumni engagement, university relations , and advancement services partners to optimize support for broad institutional aspirations.
