Using knowledge and skills as a seasoned, experienced Student Services professional, performs the full range of duties and responsibilities within a Student Life specialization. Works independently under general supervision to provide information and interpretation of complex policies, procedures and regulations. Identifies and responds to student needs for programs, services, and crisis intervention.

Department Custom Scope
As part of the commitment to provide a diverse and inclusive educational experience, UCR supports nine Ethnic and Gender Program offices that provide support to our diverse student body and create opportunities for learning about differences. The Asian Pacific Student Programs (APSP) Program Coordinator provides support and development services for UC Riverside's undergraduate community, and organizes events and activities designed to raise the general student body's awareness and appreciation of the Asian American and Pacific Islander experience. Under the general supervision of the Director, the Program Coordinator supervises the Asian American and Pacific Islander Women's Program, APSP Roundtables, and assists in leadership development activities. The Program Coordinator works with the APSP staff to identify student interests, issues, and concerns, and uses this information to develop and implement appropriate programs and activities. The Program Coordinator also serves as an adviser to various student organizations, including the Asian Pacific Islander Student Advisory Council. In addition, the Program Coordinator prepares materials for APSP's web site and weekly newsletter, prepares written reports and evaluations on events and activities.

Independently resolves moderate complex individual cases regarding student affairs or student life.
  • Act as an advocate for student concerns. With the Director, provide effective leadership and assist others in responding to student needs, crises, and concerns. Provide one-on-one support and crisis management for students in distress. Refer students, faculty and staff to appropriate campus and community resources.

May supervise clerical and/or student staff.
  • Supervise Student Leadership Development Activities including recruitment, selection, supervision and training of student employees and volunteers and leadership development activities for leaders of UCR's Asian and Pacific Islander Student community. Model a participatory management style and involve students in establishing shared goals.

Provides recommendations, reports, and metrics on feasibility of new and current programs.

Provides ongoing transformational advising and development to student leaders participating in student government, co-curricular programs and/or organizations on a wide range of issues. Advises student leaders on complex and sensitive issues. Brings extensive knowledge to a student generated field of interest and supports, guides and mentors students in formulating projects related to those issues. Guides students in interaction with campus leaders and represents students on these issues when appropriate. Coaches student leaders on communication and leadership skills.

Develop and implement a comprehensive set of social, cultural, educational development programs for the UC Riverside community, especially as related to the Asian American and Pacific Islander community.

Create experiential programs and opportunities that support South Asian students in collaboration with Middle Eastern Student Center (MESC), student groups, university departments, and other engaged stakeholders.

Develop and implement cross-cultural sessions to create awareness, encourage interaction, further understanding, and promote education of Asian American and Pacific Islanders and other members of the university community.

Research and maintain current knowledge of student success, student development and leadership development theories and practices pertaining to Asian American and Pacific Islander students in higher education.
