Department Custom Scope
Under the general direction of the College of Humanities, Arts, and Social Sciences (CHASS), Chief Financial and Administrative Officer (CFAO), this position is responsible for providing complex fiscal, budgetary, analytical, and other support to the college. This position is also responsible for managing the annual temp teaching process and allocations, tracking and the allocation of faculty initial complement funds, academic staffing process which includes funding for range adjustments and merits & promotions. Works in collaboration with and provides backup assistance to the CHASS finance team. Assists in preparing PowerPoint presentations and training material for the college as well as acts as a resource for policy guidance to the CHASS departments.

Key Responsibilities

Description % Time
Performs complex financial and budgetary analysis including forecasting to produce financial reports. Analysis include development of quantitative models, fluctuation/variance analysis, operating models, budget models, impact analysis, and testing data for accuracy and reasonableness.Assembles and analyzes requests for resources including ad-hoc requests for funding. Develops recommendations regarding reasonableness of request, resource availability and effective uses of resources to achieve college goals and objectives. Records approved commitments and manages transfer of funds process. Administers the college's critical financial resources such as temporary teaching/graduate student researchers, faculty start up packages and benefits. Participates in fiscal closing process to ensure processing of year-end financial entries in a timely and accurate manner.

Responsible for providing analytical support for highly complex budget, financial, and resource projects dealing directly with major department managers and/or outside constituents.

Gathers information, analyzes, prepares and summarizes recommendations for financial and/or resource plans, including annual resource allocation approaches, trended future requirements, operating forecasts, sources and uses, etc. Examples include generating, modifying, and conceiving of new financial or other resource reports, strategic planning and modeling, analyzing and forecasting staff/faculty salary budgets, contracts, grants, gifts, endowments, or user fees, and making recommendations for maximizing financial or other resource outcomes.

Performs complex financial or resource research and studies for both internal department and external constituents. Examples include periodic financial reports, staff/faculty salary budgets, contracts, grants, gifts, endowments, or user fees. Financial and/or resource analysis could include budgetary analysis, financial analysis, forecasts, projections, staff or faculty salary or FTE analysis, student enrollment analysis, recharge or general rate analysis (parking rates, copier rates, capital project rates, student health charges) student fees (self-supporting programs, professional school fees, course material fees, etc.) contracts and grants analysis, endowment income, fungibility of funds, working capital, depreciation, new building funds, etc.
