Department Custom Scope
Under direction from the Data Analytics Manager, this position will contribute to the growth and success of the School of Medicine (SOM) by serving as an expert in the usage of business intelligence (BI) solutions to establish high impact analytical reports/dashboards primarily relating to financial, administrative, and operational needs throughout the SOM enterprise. Specifically, the incumbent will collaborate with SOM units, IT, other analysts, end users, data owners, and BI and data management professionals to develop, maintain, and distribute reports to address the needs of the various units from a varied set of data types and sources. The BI solutions could include, but are not limited to, PowerBI, Qlik, SSRS, OBIEE, Cognos, Spotfire, SAS, R, and Looker.

4 - 7 years of related experience. Required
Five (5) years of experience designing, developing, testing and implementing secure, scalable and high-performance BI and analytic solutions; at least 3 years of experience as a BI Developer on PowerBI, Tableau, or similar solution platform. Required
Proficient in developing technical specifications, presentations, training materials, user documentation, and technical documentation. Demonstrated success with overseeing software development lifecycle for enterprise-wide BI projects Required
Experience with dimensional data modeling and relational databases. Required
Experience with SQL and ETL Preferred
BI and analytics in the Healthcare, Education, and Research. Preferred
Financial reporting experience. Experience working on complex reports relating to budgeting, fund accounting, and human resource information. Ability to actively reconcile reports to identify issues. Preferred

Key Responsibilities

Description % Time
Consults with end users to gather and clarify data and reporting needs for complex business intelligence solutions and analytics. Writes queries, develops report templates, and dashboards.
  • Design, develop, and maintain reports/dashboards on BI solutions in consultation with Data Analytics Manager and in collaboration with subject matter experts throughout SOM. Fully documents source data and solutions. Ensure that deliverables are timely, accurate, and reproducible. Also ensure understanding and interpretation of the general ledger to be able to reconcile reports and understand when data is not translated correctly.

Performs predictive analysis and forecasting to provide information that supports organizational goals. Mines data to quantify relationships and identify issues warranting further analysis.

Conducts industry benchmarking analysis and develops quantitative business cases. Presents recommendations to managers.

Identifies and analyzes errors and problems for end users, developing and applying functional solutions and/or conducting specific training as needed.

Conducts on-going analyses of data sources and data sets. Identifies issues and collaborates on developing solutions to data management challenges.
  • Provides support to constituents by collaborating with subject matter experts, data modelers, and architects/developers to integrate data from a variety of data sources into BI solutions that satisfy business information reporting needs.

Serve as a technical leader and advisor on the BI solutions. Lead the development of BI solution prototypes that demonstrate performance and usability to business and IT stakeholders.

Participates in developing and/or delivering curriculum for end user training to ensure user competence, data access, and optimal performance of BI tools and processes.
  • Champion and educate business and information technology staff on the use of the BI technologies for strategic and tactical decision making.

Serves on internal committees and participates on cross-functional teams to solve business, process, service and/systems issues.
