Department Custom Scope
The University of California at Riverside (UCR) will provide the California Air Resources Board (CARB) with operations and management of the Heavy-Duty Vehicle Inspection and Maintenance (HD I/M) Referee program in compliance with the HD I/M Regulation specified in Title 13, California Code of Regulation, Sections 2195 to 2199.1. The HD I/M Referee program will provide independent evaluations of heavy-duty vehicles and services for vehicles with inspection incompatibilities or compliance issues. UCR will perform and report all Referee actions and testing results to CARB. UCR is looking to hire Referee testers who possess high skill levels in the areas of vehicle inspection procedures, emission testing equipment, and HD I/M program requirements. Incumbent Referee testers will perform Referee inspections under the supervision of a regional manager or the project principal investigators including, but not limited to, visual inspections of heavy-duty diesel engine and after treatment systems, readings from the vehicles on-board diagnostics (OBD) system, smoke opacity tests, and verification of vehicle modifications and/or compliance issues. The incumbent will perform these tasks in the field, or virtually through various meeting software packages. The incumbent will document the results on any inspection performed in relation to the Referee program and report these results to CARB. **As a condition of employment, you will be required to comply with the University of California SARS-CoV-2 (COVID-19) Vaccination Program Policy.
