Custom Scope
Serving as organization expert in academic preparation and educational partnership development, reviews and analyzes long-standing K-12 structural barriers, and promotes systemic improvements. Regularly advises K-14 managers and professionals on a wide range of issues relating to University eligibility requirements. Provides expert recommendations and feedback to senior management on strategic and program planning. Works with the UC Office of the President, other higher educational institutions, community-based organizations, and administrators of multiple school districts on University eligibility requirements.

The Pathway Programs at the University of California, Riverside School of Medicine is committed to diversifying the physician workforce and offers unique programs serving high school, community college, university and postbaccalaureate students. Pathway Programs is a team of professionals who are committed to achieving the Mission of the UCR School of Medicine through providing programs and services for students from educationally and socioeconomically disadvantaged backgrounds in Riverside and San Bernardino counties. The Assistant Director of Pathway Programs designs, develops, and administers programs for community college and high school students aspiring to a career in medicine. In concert with the Pathway Programs Director and the Associate Dean of Student Affairs, the incumbent develops and sustains partnerships with community colleges and implements K to 14 activities to achieve unit objectives to attract and retain students from Inland Southern California who are educationally and/or socioeconomically disadvantaged. UCR SOM Pathway Programs are ten distinctive programs engaging students from K to 12, community college, university and postbaccalaureate studies. The incumbent is responsible for K to 14 programming and works in concert with program leadership to develop a seamless pathway between programs. The Assistant Director of Pathway Programs will actively contribute to achieving unit goals and objectives including objectives outlined in grants from Health Care Access and Information agency, Foundation for California Community Colleges, The California Wellness Foundation, and other private sponsors.

Designs, develops, and manages key K-12 educational partnerships and oversees execution of major initiatives.
  • Directs high school and community college programs including Community College Outreach, California Medicine Scholars Program, Future Physician Leaders, Health Sciences Partnership. Develops annual outreach plans to achieve enrollment targets for K to 14 programs. Evaluates program effectiveness and recommends and implements new programming components.

Develops strategies for organization leadership review and decision, and develops and implements academic preparation and educational partnership programs that reflect organization leadership interests.
  • Project Lead for the new California Medicine Scholars Program, a four-year pathway experience for 200 community college students. The Project Lead manages day-to-day activities for the Inland Empire Regional Hub of Healthcare Opportunity (RHHO) which is a partnership with Inland Southern California community colleges, Undergraduate Admissions at UCR and CSUSB, and community-based organizations.

Works with senior school district administrators on developing broad-based reforms and strategies that impact the work of academic preparation professionals across the UC system.
  • Builds upon existing partnerships and recommends strategies and reforms that recruit and attract K to 14 students into Pathway Programs. Convenes meetings with stakeholders to improve programming. Represents Pathway Programs at regional, statewide and national meetings.

Contributes to the preparation and submission of progress reports to the department, grant funders, and stakeholders. Maintains records on recruitment and student participation.

Provides expert guidance to K-12 managers and professional staff on University eligibility requirements.
  • Collaborates with community college faculty and counselors, health advising professionals, and equity program leaders to develop intersegmental advising guidelines for community college pathways to ensure transfer to a four year institution and completion of medical school admissions pre-requisites. Identifies opportunities for joint activities and/or conferences to promotes professional development opportunities for students and for faculty/staff.
