Generic Scope
Provides immediate supervision to a unit or group of operational or technical employees. A portion of time may be spent performing individual tasks related to the unit; however, supervisory activities must constitute a primary part of the job. Supervises unit operations to ensure compliance with departmental or organizational policies, procedures, and defined internal controls. Ensures accountability and stewardship of department resources (operational, financial, and human) in compliance with departmental standards and procedures.

Custom Scope
Supervises students and Library Assistants who are performing routine and/or largely operational duties as part of the overall operations of a library. Responsible for day-to-day operations. Provides technical guidance and resolves issues such as general communications and complaints, processing materials, and bibliographic checking.

Department Custom Scope
The Acquisitions Unit Supervisor is responsible for the day-to-day administration of the Acquisitions Unit. Supervises Library Assistants who are performing routine and / or largely operational duties as part of the overall operations of a library. Responsible for day-to-day operations. Provides technical guidance and resolves issues such as general communications and complaints, ordering, renewal, and processing materials, and bibliographic checking.

Key Responsibilities

Description % Time
Provides direction and assistance to subordinates on difficult and complex operational library services matters.
  • Provides day to day administration of the Acquisitions Unit. Administers efficient and effective operations through team leadership, assessment, continuous improvement and reporting. Oversees basic and complex collections purchasing, renewals, serials and government documents management, and departmental workflows. Approval plan implementation, vendor communications. Will be responsible for the following: Develop documentation & best practices through Library Wiki. Represent Acquisitions for UC-wide & UCR working groups & teams. Manage receipt & acquisitions functions for non-platform e-resources through Omeka S. In consultation with the department head, develop & lead acquisitions-related projects (data cleanup, POL or vendor review, ensuring completeness of POLs, revising data for functionality, adding or removing records from eDDA pool, etc.) contributing to library projects. ALMA - acquisitions functions - configurations, work orders, training, analytics. Collaborate with Collection Strategies to Manage US & CA Depository materials & Communications. Collaborating with other unit and Department on workflows, best practices, and technical operations.
