Generic Scope

Develops the long and short term organizational goals of the unit. Represents the program internally and externally. Manages the operating budget and human resources of the program.

Department Custom Scope
In concert with the Director of Undergraduate Admissions, the Associate Director is responsible to develop an annual strategic plan in line with Enrollment Services and the campus strategic plans to meet freshman, transfer and non-resident enrollment objectives. The Associate Director develops and implements innovative and modern recruitment and yield techniques for freshman and transfer students. Position provides critical operational leadership for UA, impacting the entire undergraduate recruitment, admission, and enrollment goals and plan implementation. Responsibilities include: personnel, budget and resource management specific to the recruitment unit, implementation of policies and procedures to enhance and/or improve recruitment and yield program development, and development of annual recruitment plans and timelines.

Key Responsibilities

Description % Time
Develops, interprets, and administers an admissions and/or recruitment program.
  • Develop and manage short-term and long-term California, Domestic, and International recruitment strategies for the campus to yield and enroll first-year and transfer students that meet campus enrollment and fee revenue goals. Identify target markets and develop tailored recruitment plans to reach desired student populations. Utilize various recruitment channels, including online platforms, college fairs, high school visits, and partnerships with community organizations. Monitor and evaluate the effectiveness of recruitment initiatives, making necessary adjustments to optimize outcomes. Use trend and data analyzed by the UGA Management team to identify targeted regions to meet our overall enrollment goals. Develop innovative and collaborative efforts with Financial Aid, undergraduate College Associate Dean?s, Housing, Orientation, Academic Preparation Program, Student Recruitment and Retention center, and other campus departments and programs. Develop, maintain, and manage cooperative relationships with high schools, community colleges, professional associations, and vendors at fairs, events, meetings, and conferences. Serve as community relations liaison for Undergraduate Admission and UCR for groups such as the Campus Events Steering Committee and Counsel of African American Parents (CAAP). Participate on work groups and committees related to undergraduate student recruitment and higher education in general.

Provides direction to subordinate professional and support staff.
  • Serve as the principal operations, leader, and manager for the California, domestic, and international recruitment units and yield. Maintain an effective system of communication and teamwork with all staff within the recruitment units. Oversee development of projects and accountability strategies to determine appropriate levels of staffing and service to meet objectives.

Responsible for administering the budget for managed function.
  • Develop long and short-term budget projections for the first- year, transfer and non-resident units that are consistent with federal and state regulations, campus, and UC goals and objectives. Monitor and track expenditures and ensure that expenditures do not exceed annual allocations.

In conjunction with the Directors and Associate Directors of other University of California campus admission and recruitment offices, establish and oversee standards, processes, and protocols regarding system-wide recruitment and application evaluations policies and or initiatives. Review reports regularly and interpret data to evaluate the effectiveness of programs and initiatives and implement strategic changes to improve programs and initiatives.

Representing UCR, work closely with targeted high school and community colleges, community-based organizations, UCR undergraduate colleges, academic and student service departments and programs that facilitate admission and enrollment of new undergraduate students to maintain strong and mutually beneficial relationships. Develop, oversee, and implement programs, activities, and communication strategies. Participate in major department events as assigned (e.g. Preview Days, Counselors Conference, Admissions Student Celebrations).

Formulate, develop and implement ideas for streaming recruitment processes from prospect to enrollment. Serve on the Enrollment Systems committees to assess systems needs in Banner, BDM, myUCR, and Slate and make recommendations for changes and modifications.
