Department Custom Scope
Under supervision from the Manager of Admissions and Student Affairs, this position is responsible for providing assistance to develop and administer programs that support the recruitment of highly qualified and diverse applicants to the UCR School of Medicine. The incumbent will serve as the primary admissions lead for the Conditional Admittance (CA) Program designed to recruit mission fit applicants who may require additional preparation to be successful in medical school. The primary areas of responsibility include: assist with developing and implementing an effective recruitment and outreach strategy for the CA program, preparing application materials for review by the admissions committee, supporting interview days and/or admissions committee meetings, and providing information to the public and prospective applicants on admissions requirements. The incumbent will also serve as the primary admissions lead for our student Admissions Ambassador Program. The incumbent will travel to and attend regional admissions fairs to support the recruitment of a highly qualified and diverse group of applicants while serving as a liaison to premedical advisors at various colleges and universities to ensure they are updated about admissions standards and requirements.

Key Responsibilities

Description % Time
Under direction and guidance, implements aspects of events to enhance recruitment and yield.
  • Facilitates and takes a leadership role in coordinating and overseeing recruitment events and other special events (e.g., White Coat Ceremony and Orientation) including ordering food and beverages, correspondence with applicants, speakers, and vendors, facilitating planning meetings, and taking the lead in evaluating the effectiveness of the events; maintain relationships with key colleges, universities, pre-health offices, and other important organizations. Facilitates and takes a leadership role in coordinating and overseeing the interview days including serving as liaisons and coordinating communication with applicants and interviewers, training interviewers, and troubleshooting programs throughout the interview process, especially during the day of the interview; facilitate reviewing and evaluation the effectiveness of the interview process and providing recommendations for improvement.

Provides information about higher education generally and UC specifically one-on-one and to groups.
  • Independently writes, edits, and finalizes presentations related to admissions requirements and updates to appropriate constituents; ability to adapt presentations and advising information about admissions processes and requirements to different constituents such as pre-health advisors, current applicants, and pathway program participants; represent admissions at different events and external and internal meetings. Develops marketing materials (ie programs, flyers) for admissions programs.

Provides substantive information on admissions requirements, school/college programs and curricula, financial aid, housing, and career opportunities.
  • Serves as the primary admissions point of contact for the Conditional Admittance (CA) Program. Assists with the support of other School of Medicine admissions programs to include but not limited to the following: regular MD, Early Assurance Program (EAP), Program in Medical Education (PRIME), and Thomas Haider programs.

  • Exercises professional judgment in reviewing, evaluating, and recommending admissions files, and independently responding to inquiries from applicants including admissions e-mailbox and understanding when to refer complex and/or unique situations to the supervisor. Provide information to and advise prospective applicants on curriculum requirements and other student support services. Serve as advisor to prospective applicants on the Medical School Admission process, admission requirements and other inquiries regarding UCR SOM programs.
