Department Custom Scope
Under the supervision of the Assistant Director of Processing, the Financial Aid Technician III serves the public and executes various programmatic functions. This position reviews the accuracy of student information as provided on financial aid applications, resolves conflicting information, and reviews for changes according to federal, state, and university regulations. This position ensures all requests for financial aid materials and subsequent communication to the student regarding required documents, eligibility criteria, and miscellaneous communication are handled in a timely manner. This position provides guidance needed to meet individual circumstances and composes correspondence to students and other clients relative to aid eligibility and office policy and procedures. This position will calculate aid eligibility and make revisions according to updated student information. This position presents financial aid information both on and off-campus to groups of students and prospective students and is an active contributor to discussions and recommends changes when appropriate to better meet the needs of the populations served. Lastly, this position performs special assignments and other duties as assigned. Responsibilities require organization of work area, prioritization of workload, and understanding of and ability to use an automated student information system. The Financial Aid Office works with a culturally and economically diverse population. The Financial Aid Technician III must be able to interact with students and parents with sensitivity and discretion, always maintaining confidentiality. This position will be hybrid. The typical hybrid schedule will be 2 days in the office and 3 days working remotely but could vary depending on the department's needs.

Key Responsibilities

STUDENT RECORDS Working under pre-established guidelines performs needs analysis and assesses eligibility. Researches and resolves discrepancies and conflicting information in student records. Perform verification for selected (FAFSA and CADAA) applicants; review and act to update student records and resolve any conflicting information in the file. Review student financial aid offers and make required adjustments to resolve over-awards; including third-week census adjustments based on course enrollment. Perform a review of financial aid files to determine the need and eligibility for federal, state, and institutional financial aid programs. Process financial aid forms and maintain records in compliance with university policies and federal regulations.

INFORMATION DISSEMINATION Provide financial aid counseling to students and parents including application procedures and requirements such as deadlines, eligibility criteria, dependency status, award notification timing, award guidelines, packaging philosophy, and disbursement/billings. Responsible for referring students to appropriate university departments or state/federal agencies. Responsible for communicating to students procedures related to the overall processes for financial aid application, awarding, and disbursement. Participates in yield and outreach events to provide financial aid information.

Exercise professional judgment discretion granted to financial aid administrators by law to override dependency status and/or used to calculate the EFC/SAI and costs within the Cost Of Attendance components. Responsible for reviewing student documentation and making adjustments to standard components of need analysis that are warranted due to special circumstances, based on established criteria set by the Financial Aid Director and the Department of Education.
