Generic Scope

Department Custom Scope
Under the general direction of the CHASS Assistant Dean of Student Success, the Director of Advising and Enrollment Management has primary responsibility for the management of undergraduate academic advising services in the College of Humanities, Arts, and Social Sciences. Duties include, but are not limited to, supervision of academic advisor supervisors as well as the enrollment management supervisor; management and development of advising services; oversight over scheduling and enrollment related duties; and the interpretation, enforcement, and administration of UC, university, and college regulations, policies, and procedures. The Director provides advisement to the Assistant Dean of Student Success and Associate Dean of Student Affairs to ensure the college is actively planning and prepared to meet the requirements of growing enrollment and the needs of our students. The Director acts as a campus-wide resource for student advising related matters within the college, including the Registrar?s office, college partners, the Vice Provost and Dean for Undergraduate Education, and others. The full salary for this position is $87,300- $163,300 annually. We base salary offers on a variety of considerations, such as education, licensure and certifications, experience, and other business and organizational needs.

Key Responsibilities

Description % Time
Develops, interprets, and administers a large and complex student academic advising program.
  • This position will be responsible for overseeing all academic advising activities within CHASS. The incumbent will create strategic plans, proposals, and reports with college wide impact that draw on nationally recognized norms and best practices in academic advising to improve student retention, persistence, and graduation rates within CHASS. Responsible for assessing the efficacy of advising and developing new academic advising strategies to address unanticipated needs or newly identified deficiencies, for implementing solutions to these issues, and for evaluation of program wide effectiveness. Oversee the involvement of CHASS in new student orientation programs. Communicates with advisors regularly to discuss changes in policy, regulations, procedures, and important advising developments. Position will conduct research, including data analysis and proposal writing, as needed for special projects.

Provides direction to subordinate managers and/or supervisors.
  • This position will manage 4 Academic Advisor Supervisors and the Enrollment Management Supervisor. The Director will serve as primary resource in dealing with difficult, complex, and/ or unusual situations regarding student academic advising or student success services and student progress. Responsible for management of staff to ensure student needs are met and a consistent, high level of service is provided throughout CHASS

Advises school or college senior management on far-reaching academic policies, practices, and procedures.
  • Serve as resource for the interpretation, enforcement, and administration of UC, university, and college regulations, policies, and procedures so that both institutional and student needs are met. Advises the Dean, Associate Deans, Assistant Dean on areas concerning and undergraduate affairs and for matters that require confidentiality and sensitivity that may have long-term personnel or legal implications. Prepare policy and procedure reports and documentation. Serve as a liaison with campus partners including advising colleagues in other schools and colleges; Athletics, the Vice Provost and Dean of Undergraduate education, and the registrar?s office

Develops and implements budgets for managed functions.

Makes decisions on performance, salary actions, hiring decisions and other human resources related issues of managed staff.
  • This responsibility includes oversight of the units employee development, hiring, and other relevant needs throughout the Advising team which includes approximately 30 Student Advisors and 4 Enrollment Management Support staff. Provides regular feedback to direct reports regarding performance and development throughout the year and provides formal, comprehensive feedback during the annual review process.
