Generic Scope

Custom Scope
Manages a centralized student services unit or a group of student services advisors in a department, school, or college. Formulates policies and procedures for the student services program. Develops the long term organizational goals of the unit. Manages the financial and human resources for the program.

Department Custom Scope
The Director of the Highlander One-Stop is a key leadership role reporting directly to the Associate Vice Chancellor of Enrollment Services, responsible for providing integrated student services related to Financial Aid, Student Accounts, Registrar, Undergraduate Admissions, and Summer Sessions with future consideration to expand the service model to include other key campus departments. This position requires a dynamic and strategic individual who can drive student success by streamlining administrative processes, providing exceptional customer service, and fostering collaboration among various departments. The Director will play a pivotal role in ensuring a seamless and efficient experience for students from admission through graduation, contributing to the overall success and retention of students.

Manages student services programs.
  • Provides strategic leadership for the Highlander One-Stop, through the development and implementation of a comprehensive strategic plan that includes a vision, goals, and objectives that are in alignment with the campus and Enrollment Services strategic plan. Lead the integration of services provided by Undergraduate Admissions, Financial Aid, Summer Sessions, Registrar, and Student Accounts in order to create a holistic and student-centered experience that supports student success and retention. Evaluate technology needs and enhancements that should be implemented to compliment a seamless student experience.

  • Streamline and optimize administrative processes across departments to enhance operational efficiency and improve the student experience. Continuously assess and improve services to ensure that students receive accurate information, timely assistance, and necessary resources.

Staff Development: Provide leadership, professional development, and training opportunities for one-stop staff. Foster a culture of collaboration, innovation, and continuous improvement

  • Ensure the delivery of exceptional customer service to students, families, and other stakeholders. Implement best practices for handling inquiries, resolving issues, and providing accurate and helpful information related to the departments represented at the Highlander One-Stop. Serves as the first point of contact in all escalations and works to resolve them on the spot in advance of escalating to the home department. This, in part, will be accomplished by developing a comprehensive and regular training program that is administered to Highlander One-Stop staff.

Evaluates the effectiveness of the student services function, and makes changes to the program to provide better service to organizational management, faculty, and students.
  • Utilize data analytics to monitor key performance indicators to track the progress towards meeting strategic initiatives. Make data-driven recommendations for process improvements and strategic decision-making to enhance student outcomes. Assess technology that that should be implemented in support of evaluation efforts. Continually evaluate policies, performance data, programs, and services of the department to ensure compliance, quality, efficiency, and effectiveness of operations.

Outreach and Education: In collaboration with the Enrollment Services Marketing and Communications Manager, develop and implement a comprehensive communication plan and manage a One Stop website with a focus to educate students, families, and the campus about One-Stop resources.

Plans, develops, and administers the student services budget for the organization.
  • Plan, monitor, and maintain the Highlander One-Stop budget and approve operating expenses according to UCR policies and procedures ensuring efficient resource allocation and fiscal responsibility.

Makes decisions on performance, salary actions, hiring decisions and other human resources related issues of managed staff.

Represents the student services unit to the organization community and relevant external constituencies.
  • Foster collaboration and effective communication among Highlander One-Stop departments as well as with other campus units that impact the student administrative experience. Work in closely with Undergraduate Education, International Affairs, Housing, Student Health Center, academic advisors, faculty, and other student affairs professionals to provide a coordinated and holistic support system for students. Serve on various campus and external committees to represent the interests of the Highlander One-Stop

Compliance and Regulation: Stay current and ensure compliance with federal, state, and UC regulations and policies. Ensure the security and confidentiality of all student record information and submitted documentation in compliance with FERPA.
