Custom Scope
Utilizing advanced, specialized expertise provides direction and guidance to lower level Student Services professionals in specialized student life and development programs, and resolves the most complex cases/situations; and/or has programmatic responsibility for a discreet complex Student Life & Development function or content area.

Department Custom Scope
The Director for the Veteran Resource Center is responsible for planning, developing, implementing and assessing programs designed to support the academic wellness and campus integration of student veterans. The Director manages a varied and complex set of co-curricular services and programs intended to advance knowledge of and awareness about UCR's diverse veteran community and will develop new programming that will address issues of diversity, equity and inclusion. The incumbent works independently to analyze and/or assess the unit?s needs; make recommendations for changes and improvements; independently implements recommended changes; establish operational, programmatic unit policy and procedures. Serves as a subject matter expert pertaining to state and federal matters that impact student veterans. This position will supervise the program coordinator and ensure that there is quality programming and collaborative partnerships across campus and the surrounding community. The Director advocates for the well-being of students, with a specific focus on student veterans. The Director will be highly visible on campus as the subject matter expert to students, staff, faculty. This is a leadership role and it will lead the strategic planning and assessment process of this area. This position regularly advises campus leaders and student groups on a wide range of issues for student veterans including academic achievement, high impact student services, campus climate issues, and the complex landscape impacting veteran students. This role will also work with external stakeholders in alignment with campus processes and policies.

  • Develops strategic student engagement priorities, annual goals, and objectives to ensure proper alignment with the Division of Student Affairs and the University's strategic plans.

Independently resolves the most complex individual cases regarding student affairs or student life issues.
  • Refers individuals as necessary to University and community resources. Meets with students and assists them in navigating resources as they resolve emotional, academic, interpersonal, and crisis-level issues.

Develops and maintains complex or sensitive relationships with external organizations critical to program success. Represents the organizations to UC, the local community, and other relevant audiences.
  • Provides expert level knowledge regarding veteran students to UC, the local community, and other relevant audiences. Serves as a liaison and partner with UCOP and local community colleges. Establishes access to resources both on and off campus focused on the needs of veteran students. Represents this area on a variety of committees to ensure that the Veteran Resource Center is represented appropriately. Establishes and maintains effective working relationships with faculty, staff and community in support of the student experience.

Manages a program of providing counseling, guidance and development to student leaders or student government. Oversee(s) a program(s) and service(s) of diverse complexity and scope.
  • Partners with areas within Student Affairs as well as across the institution to strengthen existing partnerships as well as establish new relationships to ensure a robust student development approach to student success.
