Department Custom Scope
The position requires professionalism, skills in presenting information, attention to detail, the ability to collaborate - working in teams, and flexibility. Under the general supervision of the Assistant Director, the Admission Specialist is available to students, families, the campus community, and the public to interpret, enforce and explain University policies and regulations. The Admission Specialist fosters and maintains good working relationships with the public, institutions and organizations involved in outreach recruitment as well as serves as a resource to the external community such as high school and community college counselors, and representatives from other universities. The Admissions Specialist plays a pivotal role in increasing enrollment among high-achieving and underrepresented minority (especially Black/African American) high school and transfer students. Represents the Office of Undergraduate Admissions and the University at workshops, counselor conferences, college fairs, high school visits, Umoja visits and a variety of on/off-campus recruitment and yield events. The Black & African American Admissions Counselor will collaborate to propose and create new programs and events for Community Based Organizations (CBO's) and more. The incumbent is responsible for all phases of admission eligibility evaluation of both freshman and transfer applicants based on self-reported information, official transcripts, and other pertinent documents. The Admission Specialist uses professional judgment and comprehensive knowledge of educational processes, including acceptance of transfer coursework from domestic institutions in determining whether applicants meet requirements for admission. The incumbent is expected to perform with a high level of professionalism as a representative of UC Riverside and the University of California among many constituencies, oftentimes conveying complicated and/or sensitive information.

Key Responsibilities

  • Independently plans, implements, and executes school specific recruitment plans. Travel to high schools and community colleges to recruit prospective and admitted freshman and transfer students. Independently represents UCR and creates recruitment pipelines with selected schools and community colleges.

  • As the subject matter expert for UCR admissions, is the single source recruitment advisor to selected high schools and community colleges and groups including include Black Student Unions, African American High School Parent Associations, Faith Based Organizations, Traditional and Non-Traditional Families and more.
