Department Custom Scope
The Well is UC Riverside's health promotion department focused on holistic well-being, housed within the Health, Well-being, and Safety Organization. The Student Health Services Promotion Specialist will perform highly skilled and complex work, planning, implementing, and evaluating evidence-based health promotion strategies, and advocating for well-being policies/practices in their topic areas, programs, and services for University of California Riverside students. Topic areas related to this position include, but are not limited to: sexual health and reproductive justice, alcohol, tobacco and other drugs (ATOD), and other emerging wellness priorities and initiatives. The Student Health Services Health Promotion Specialist will serve as a liaison for The Well and Student Health Services by leading interdepartmental, collaborative programming, outreach, and assessment efforts, and manage a peer health education program and policy/public health intern, supervising both paid and volunteer students.The Student Health Services Health Promotion Specialist will be responsible for Student Health Services' social media, marketing, and website presence on campus. The successful applicant will demonstrate a high level of understanding of college health, and demonstrate their knowledge of connecting with students who identify as historically underrepresented BIPOC students, African Diaspora, API, Latinx, international, first-generation, undocumented, veterans, students with disabilities, and LGBTQI+ communities as examples and working from a healthy equity/JEDI lens.

Key Responsibilities

Develops, implements and evaluates effectiveness of health promotion/education programs.
  • Includes marketing, managing a program budget, collaborating with on- and off-campus partners, and presenting on a variety of subject areas of need including, but not limited to: sexual health, alcohol and other drugs (AOD), and workshops for students sanctioned for AOD violations using motivational interviewing techniques.

Presents group classes on a variety of subject areas of need, including but not limited to: nutrition, weight management, smoking cessation, stress management, diabetes management, prenatal care, cardiovascular health issues, etc.

Assists in promoting health education components to physicians, staff, and patients through meeting presentations, printed promotional material, etc.

Provides supervision of student staff and coordination of a peer health education group focused on the topic areas of sexual health, reproductive justice, alcohol and other drugs. Oversees peer and student staff recruitment efforts; develops, coordinates and facilitates training and professional development opportunities. Organizes peer programming efforts; attends programs and provides guidance and support.
