Department Custom Scope
The Senior Graphic & Digital Communications Specialist oversees the planning, production, and creation of graphic design and layout for a variety of complex publications, printed collateral, visual media, presentations, web site applications and social media platforms for the UCR School of Medicine. Works as part of a communications team within the Strategic Initiatives Unit. Independently consults with clients to create complex materials for a variety of publications for internal and external audiences. Works with vendors and clients to approve proper use of UCR branding, serving as primary approver. Works with service providers to ensure timely production of printed items. Supports the efforts of the Strategic Initiatives Unit and performs other duties as assigned.

Key Responsibilities

Description % Time
Independently plans, schedules, designs, and coordinates publications or presentation graphics that meet the needs of the event and/or department.
  • Oversees planning, production, graphic design, and layout for a variety of complex publications, printed collateral, visual media, presentations, web site applications, Canva templates, and social media platforms. -Creates, from scratch or with minimal guidance, branded collateral, visual media and presentations (custom letterhead, branded presentations, Canva templates, Zoom backgrounds, etc.). -Provides insight on how design can be used for effective flow of information to audiences/event attendees and for efficient work processes of colleagues. Projects include annual SOM Year in Review publication as well as all print and digital design assets with a cohesive visual identity needed for several annual events. Assists with planning and implementation of complex social media campaigns, including the graphic design of branded collateral pieces, researching information and publishing the content on schedule. Participates in the development and publication of web content within a responsive design content management system.

Provides original design and layout on selected publications including brochures, catalogs, media guides, newsletters and signage.

Gathers, analyzes, and prepares project plans for publications, including approaches, trends, sources and uses.
  • Utilizes an understanding of print terminology and processes to inform production and scheduling decisions. Communicates with print vendors to coordinate orders.

Tracks and monitors budget expenditures for publication materials.
